Question sticker on paint removal

I bought a used 96 f 250 4x4 its in mint shape but the guy put a sticker on the tail gate right on the paint why would anyone do that?I can see a bumper or window but on the paint sheesh.well anyway I want to take it off but I dont want the paint to peel off with it.I was told to wait till summer since its winter here and its like 25 to 30 deg outside.would a hair dryer work with a plastic putty knife work in the winter?if its going to peel the paint then ill just leave it but i dont like the sticker or where it is on paint.any info will help thanks.

hair dryer is a good way to heat up the sticker and make it soft, once you get the top layer off then use a little paint thinner on a cotton rag... that should get off the glue.
make sure you re-wax the area after your done. Dont use a putty knife!

You can lightly use a credit card after heating to scrape some of it off. The adhesive remover as mentioned. Simply follow up with some rubbing compound to get any minor scuffs out of the paint. Just did this on my own vehicle a few days ago and worked a treat!
