I would like to start off by saying - great forum! I am waiting to order an 05 FX4 Screw and have learned alot here.
I like the way Blkbuty's truck looks without the FX4 sticker on the side. Can anyone give me advice on how to remove the stickers without damaging the paint?
I currently own a 97 Dakota 4X4 (POS) and the puffy stickers that came on it just peeled off. That thing is the worst vehicle I have ever owned and I can't wait to get my new truck.
I would apply a small amount of heat from a blow dryer to the sticker and peal off with hand. I wouldn't use any sharp tools. The heat will make the sticker come off eaiser. Use some goo be gone to remove the glue residue.
I actually pealed mine off the first week so I had no problems getting it off. I agree that you can order it w/o the Fx4 sticker. If you want to take the stickers off the Dodge better use hair dryer to heat it up or heat gun and it should peal right off.
Thanks for all of the advice. I think I will ask them to leave them off and if that does not work I will try to peel them off like I did with the Dodge.
I'd ask your dealer to do it before you take delivery of it...they'll have someone skilled do it and if they somehow screw your paint up they'll be responsible for it.
I had my delaer take the Lariat 4x4 sticker off and put an Fx4 sticker on in it's place...I wanted the sportier look.
I think after paying over 30K for the truck the least they could do is remove the sticker for free. I don't think it will be a problem getting them to do it. Thanks again.
My experiance removing stickers from vehicles... Was told by a guy that worked in a body shop to use a "pepsi/coke" plastic bottle cap and peel it off. When I removed my dealers "free advertisement" off my tailgate my truck was 3 years old. The sticker had blistered the paint and actually caused it to raise up slightly. My suggestion then is to do this ASAP before it has time to blister your paint. Even after waxing it's still there in the right light.
I used to apply graphics on cars for a living and we used to use a heat gun but I would not advise that. I always use a hair dryer even if they seem to be easy to take off without, it will come off even easier with it. Also, if you happen to leave some of the adhesive on the truck, get some 3M adhesive remover and it will take care of it.
Hate to revive such an old thread but FYI for anyone interested. The FX4 stickers peal right off. All you need is one good finger nail. They don't even leave sticker residue.
I bought my F150 used w/ 15,000 miles already on it. I was afraid that the sun had already lightened the color in my truck and was worried about peeling the 4x4 stickers off. Well, I just took one corner and they peeled right off...and no color change. You can't even tell that there was a sticker there. I live in Arizona so its always hot....105 average temp during the summer. Needless to say I didn't need a blow dryer to heat up the sticker. However, I do believe that the heat did help with the ease of removal.
