Hey guys.First post here.Just wanted to ask if anyone here has had any problems with their PSOM/gauge cluster? While cruising along my '95 3.0 w/180k mi. will downshift to 3rd every now and then.Sometimes the speedo drops to 0 and the odometer goes blank.Sometimes the speedo pegs out to top speed but usually drops to 0.About half the time the speedo stays good with just the downshift.
If I give the dashboard a good rap-Fonzie style Ayyy!- the trans returns to O/D.I pulled the PSOM and checked the wiring the best I could but there's a sticker on the back of the cluster saying "don't disconnect before contacting Ford....etc".All the wiring looks good from the limited access I had with the PSOM still connected.
So #1-Can I disconnect the PSOM and stick in a compatible JY unit for "test" purposes?
I know I need to pull codes.I've got a reader but no code sheet.
Oddly enough,I've also got a '95 Bronco w 180k mi. w/Haynes manual.
So #2-Are the codes the same numerically for both vehicles?
Anything you guys can throw my way would be appreciated.
Back when I had a speedo issue i was reading about that. It seems that there could be a circut board issue a cracked trace maybe on the PSOM on the back of the cluster... I can't remember exactly..
That fixed mine. It worked fine until a tree fell on it. Changing it is not that hard. The indicator is actually a cable. Similar to a bicycle brake cable. It has an adjustment to fine tune the indicator.
Thanks,Tom.I pulled the cluster yesterday and checked connections. WD40'd the 2 of 3 I could get loose.I didn't want to press my luck with the 3rd until I have a replacement on hand.
I also pulled the cover around the steering column. When I removed the ignition lock, the little black wire terminal in the ignition cylinder came loose and wouldn't stay in place afterward.Duct tape to the rescue!
I'm gonna leave the dash trim out for a few days while trying to isolate the problem further.
Am I right in assuming the odometer mileage is stored in the computer,so when I do,if necessary, the cluster swap, the mileage will still be actual ?
Actually, I lost some 30-40K mile with my swap. I wrote it down for reference. But after it was totaled I didn't need it any more.
I remember that there is a setting having to do with wheel/tire size that you set in the PSOM. Thus the programmable part of PSOM. I think you can change it a few times in the life of the PSOM. I didn't notice any changes in MPH with mine so I didn't bother. Check the current value of the old before you swap and then check the new.
