Code P0279? Hard cold start.
I have a 04 6.0 with 133k on it.
It has been getting very bad about starting when its cold 50 and below.
If I have it pluged in ( most the time) it starts okay? I took my Supper Chipps program out of it and ran it a few days with no improvment. I then ran the codes and came up with P0279 and P1000?
Can you help me out on this?????

I found these in the tech folder in case you need to reference some other codes.
My truck also starts really hard when its not plugged in. I would take it to the dealer and have them test your injectors. You also might want to consider getting the newest flash update. I hear a lot of good things about it fixing the cold start issues. I'm taking mine in tomorrow for diagnostics and the newest flash. (TSB 09-24-3) I'll let you know how it goes.

Well I dont call it cold but the truck does!!
I t use to start fine in "cold" weather 10 deg but I would cycle the glow plugs a few times and she'd bust right off. Yea there is more to it than that for sure.

A usual cold night here is around 15 Degs F. I had my truck at the dealership today because my truck starts hard and runs rough if I don't plug it in. Turns out my FICM was going bad, so I had it replaced. They also installed the newest flash for free. (since i paid mega bucks to replace the FICM.) We'll see how it turns over in the morning.

Just to add to to the topic. My 05 has 123k miles on it. Mine runs a little rough until the needle gets of the C. Once she warms up, it runs like a top. Before she warms up, very little power. This winter (Louisiana 20F-50F) i did switch over to 5w-40 synthetic, from 15w-40 dino. This really helped out a lot. Not real sure what the problem is, but it has me wondering......

I'd take it to your local ford dealer and have them look at it. I brought mine in yesterday for the running rough at cold start, and low power until its fully warmed up. Turns out my FICM was bad. Had it replaced along with newest flash update. I'd also have your electrical system checked out at your local Autozone or Advanced Auto parts store. I'm told that bad batteries or alternators can cause FICM failure.

I have 163K on my truck, and I paid around $720 for the new FICM. After labor and programming the total bill was $870 with 10% military discount. I noticed a huge difference in the truck after the repair was done. The truck fires right up, no rough running. And I don't have to let it idle anymore before I take off. It would hesitate to shift before but that problem is completely gone now. It was totally worth the money in my opinion.

Well the truck would not start tonight so I just pulled the FICM and reflowed the few solder joints. They did not look bad at all. though the middle wire connector came loose just as soon as I turned the FICM.
Ill put it back together in the am and see what happens.
