Yep, saw my first Raptor in all of its glory on Sunday afternoon. I was exiting the highway and as I looked to make my turn at the light at the end of the exit ramp I spotted it.
BIG beautiful, black grille, F O R D proudly bearing down on the tiny ricer in front of it. I have to admit that I got all excited and started bouncing around behind the steering wheel. Felt like a kid about to hit Disney World for the first time.
I didnt have anything pressing to do, so I followed it, hoping it would stop soon. Sure enough, the driver pulled up in and stopped at a gas station.
I whipped my truck up beside his and as soon as he saw me grinning, he got a big ol smile and rolled down his window. He said "I know, I still cant believe it myself!"
He said it rides great and that his wife reported it "tears through the snow"..... brave, brave man.
He has not had it out in the sand yet, but plans to do so this coming weekend. He was friendly and just as goofy as I was over his truck.
The Dealer buy me had a black one in the showroom when we bought my wifes new escape. Love the truck just did not like it in black because the grafix blended in to much.
I got to go to the FTE Raptor preview at the Denver auto show last year, it was pretty cool meeting the chief engineer on that project. he did tell me when I asked about tuning it that they were running the 6.2 @ 500HP but tuned it down for warranty, emissions etc.... with 2 rug rats it would not work for me unless they do it in a crew cab at some point. It sure seemed like they did everything right in making it off road capable right of the showroom floor. it can take a place next to the Jeep Rubicon editions as a great Factory 4 wheeler...
I just read somewhere that one of the performance companies is doing a souped up versions gonna be called the VelociRaptor... Maybe they need to name all their trucks after Dinosaurs.. esp as the Mopar T-rex never made it to production...
The next iteration of the Raptor will have the blown 6.2L with over 400HP at the drivers disposal. That will be a fun truck!!
WHAT? A 6.2 with a supercharger and it only puts out 400HP? That's lame! The 5.0 Mustang puts up those kinds of numbers! A normally aspirated 6.2 should have 400HP at a minimum! Not impressed!
