The first couple times my truck went into regen it showed the "cleaning exhaust filter" message for a few seconds and then went away. Yesterday it gave me a "drive to clean exhaust filter" message for about two minutes and then went to "cleaning exhaust filter" message for about twenty minutes, unfortunately I was home and it was still going and when I put it in park, it went back to the "drive to clean exhaust filter" message. Any ideas as to why all of a sudden the change in message delivery?
You need to drive it so it can complete the regen. I noticed that the last couple of days mine was going into regen pretty often but I wasn't able to let it complete. I figured that I was going to get the "drive to clean exhaust filter" message but I didn't. Luckily today while I was on the interstate it completed the cycle. Apparently there isn't a "completed" message because I was watching for it but I just noticed the engine sounded like it normally does when not in regen.
Seems for my '10, I have a little more pep when the regen cycle starts...reminds me of my old 6.0...anyone notice this? I have been having about 280 miles between cycles and the last two have been within a 100 miles of each other...thinking that one of them didn't get it fully cleaned. Just drive and check the status by doing a system check to see when it is finished.
The "Exhaust Drive Complete" message only stays on the display for a few seconds. I miss it a lot of times. I always reset trip meter B when regen starts, then do the system check to get the "Cleaning Exhaust" message back on the display. Mine went into regen Saturday night as I was leaving the Alamodome, but before I got to my exit (about 15 miles), it was done, but I missed the "complete" message. The display just went back to what was previously displayed (AVG MPG). Of course, my Edge Insight also goes crazy, as I have an alarm set for regen status...no way I can miss that!

At 1200 miles total now from new on my 2010 F450 and have not seen any regen messages. Is there a way to tell if regens done in past, or do you have to catch the system check status mid-cycle somehow?
Mike,
I don't believe that the 2010 have a message. I have a 2010 F-350 and run an edge insight that is set to alarm when it goes into regen, which has happened many times, but I've never seen a message anywhere on the dash.
BigRed: I have the same thing, feels peppy and jumpy during the cycle. Whatever the fuel trim and turbo strategy is during regen makes for a more responsive motor but there is less grunt above 2K rpm's. Less boost too. But from a stop, much more responsive for sure.
Ford can put a computer it and see if it has regened. but no way for us to know without catching the message.

hey big red, ruschejj. i was on a narrow road the other day, got out to take a leak when it was in regen, got back in and stood on it with the window down and it sounded exactly like my 6.0 in 1st and 2nd it was great i kept slowing down and givin er after 2nd it sounded like a leaf blower with the back window open?
also sometimes when i get home and the message is still on i will leave it in gear and put e brake on and let it finish, it causes a bit of a blue haze but least it gets it done.
koboss1--does it actually finish if you leave it in gear? I thought I read somewhere that regen stops once the vehicle speed drops below 30 mph? I've had mine start so many times just a couple miles from home...would be nice if it would finish...
Mine will actually stay in regen at a stop, but boy hidee, the fumes will nearly choke you to death. Was in Dallas this weekend and it went into regen with my elderly parents in the back seat, I had to terminate the regen due to to the oder. Stop and go driving just does not work and regenning especially with little to no wind to move it around.
