Steering Column Question

I want to know what you guys think about steering column modifications. My main problem is I am a fatty fat fat, but what bugs me is the steering column sticks out 3 feet from the dash. Now if I sit at an optimun location for my feet to easily reach the pedals(I have short legs), and being able to reach headlights, and wipers the steering wheel is in my gut. If I scoot the seat back to where the wheel is not in my gut I can't reach the pedals or anything else very good at all.

I am sure I'm not the only one to want to do something about the hulk coming out of the dash. Why they made them like that I don't know there was so much interior room left on the table.

So what can be done about the column? Is there any way to chop it down to size or something like that?

Sounds like a telescoping column would help, but I don't know what might interchange
with your truck.

It might help a little, but cutting 3 to 6 inches off the column would be best. I honestly don't know if I have a tilt wheel or not. I don't think it is, but it seems like the stalk has room to move forward, but I never can get it to. I'll post some pictures if I can.

The only old school cylindrical steering colums I know of that telescope are on Caddys and Corvettes.

Jaguars from the 80's have telescoping and tilt columns.

If you have cruise control you have a tilt column.

I wish they had their prices listed. I was hoping for something a little less costly, I guess I better hit the gym harder losing 120lbs would cure part of the problem.

These trucks are plentiful in junkyards. Get a tilt from there for around twenty to fifty bucks. The tilt may give everything you need.

Probably doesn't cost as much as 6 months of a gym membership...but not as good for you.

I really don't know how much one could be had for. There seems to be a fair number of them on Ebay. The universal units seem to be around $300 and change. The custom units for specific vehicles more.
