99 F-150 4x4 5.4 O2 Sensors

What a pain to replace these things! I bought the Bosch sensors and the offset 3/8 drive socket. Then I asked Answers.Ford for how-to advice, cost me another $20.00, and still could not get the job done, and so far have put it off till I get more info. I jacked the front end up, took off the passenger side tire and wheel, and managed to get the connector unplugged, but could not get to the sensor with any wrench, including the special socket. It looks like you have to remove the transmission dipstick tube to get access. I wonder how much trouble that is. It looks like the drivers side is pretty easy to access from underneath without having to remove the tire and wheel, but since I couldn't get the passenger side done, I just gave it up for today. Funny, I was able to pop the connector loose on the passenger side, but not the drivers side which is easier to get at. Is there ANYBODY out there who has the secret formula for getting to these, especially the passenger side??? Thanks!

Don

The secret is a 22mm wrench and removing the wheel along with the inner fender liner.
Use a little penetrating oil and maybe a little tap with a hammer on the end of the wrench to get it started.

drive the truck for a little bit. the exhaust will be hot but its a night/day difference when it comes to getting them out. you could almost unscrew them with your bare hands when the exhaust is hot.
