On my way back from school I partially lost my turn signals. When ever I have the brakes on the lights stay on and don't click also the arrow on the instrument cluster stays on but is very dim.
When I checked in the main fuse box nothing looked blown but I could only hear occasional *click* from what ever relay (I think I got that right) the turn signal goes through.
I checked the manual and only found fuses that concerned the turn signals.
Otherwise when I don't have my brakes on they work as normal.
I'll gladly and thankfully take whatever help I can get.
i had a bit of a problem with my turn signals and brakes once. so i took off the cover on the top of the steering column and found that the connector for the switches had come partially out cause the little clip broke. so i super glues the clip back on and everything worked fine.
After looking at it some more I managed to somehow get my left turn signal back to normal but right is still acting up when I touch the brake pedal. I have narrowed it down to either the switch or something in the brake pedal.
After looking up how to remove the collum covers I decied that this felt a little too over my head so I'll take it to my trusted mechanic and see if he can do it instead.
No you don't have to mess with the ignition. Once the screws are out you can move the cover out of the way enough to get at the MFS. Not very hard at all. The main thing to check for is if the wires are not fully seated in the plastic clip.
Is it cold outside? When the temp is below about 25 degrees here, my switch was doing the same thing. I checked the connection and it seemed to be fine. Replaced the MFS and everything is fine now...even on a few days where the temp dipped to 0 degrees.
Just thought I'd update some how my blinkers are back to normal which makes me think that it was cold related in someway. Either way this is good cause I can put the money back toward fixing the other brewing problem(s) under the hood.
***And just a note too...the ignition cylinder is a piece of cake to remove. Just use a small phillips screw driver (small one used for eye glasses repair) and stick it up in the access hole below the ignition cylinder. Push in the cylinder while depressing the 'button' with the screw driver. The cylinder will slide right out...at least mine did on my '98. Then the plastic cover comes right off. Re-installation of the cylinder is simple too...just push it into place until you hear a 'click'.
