Im debating on putting stacks on my truck. I have a 1993 F350 crew cab long box. I tow a trailer alot with my family, wife and two children. Im conserned about the noise. Sycostang you have the look I want how is the noise in the cab? The truck has a banks turbo on it so I assume the noise wont be too bad but i dont want to spent the money then regret it. Thanks in advanced.
Headed that direction myself. Three inch dual off the header to four inch. Tipped with a custom 5" from streamline custom coatings. It will be ceramic chrome with a decal design baked in. Can't wait!
I am disappointed with the noise, it's not near as loud as I had hoped. At idle, the engine is far louder than the exhaust. There really isn't much noise until past 2k rpm. I usually roll down both windows and pop the rear slider so I can listen. If you get turnouts or bullhaulers, you can angle them straight back to redirect the noise a little more away from the cab. I think the larger pipe helps lower the tone as well. I am running a 4" straight pipe into 5" stacks.
Hm, I have a slightly different opinion than these guys.
Granted it may not have helped that I have a regular cab...
But, I had stacks on my truck last year (5" turnouts) I did not run them as high as some do, I had them so the top 4-5" of the stack cleared the top of the cab but that's it.
They were actually not bad most of the time EXCEPT when you were on the highway- they were so loud inside the truck at highway speeds that they drove me nuts. I actually thought that the 5" stacks made the sound resonate more and made the noise worse rather than better.
BTW this was running it WITH a muffler (a couple different kinds in fact)
My dad has done a few of the stacks with the ceramic chrome and it seems to react to noise differently, usually quieter. It is sprayed/applied inside and out for protection and it thickens the material and reduces the drone sound. Me personally, i could care less, my stack will be about level with the top of the cab.
The tip he is doing is for a contest he enters every year so it will be done up big time. Chrome to black to flames with a decal of a navy chief skull in the side. It will be pretty sick. The material is called cerakote and they can do a black called cobra black that is amazing on headers and similar. The best part is that it actually protects the metal and will not blue. But if you are doing black, you can definitely get it. Want his contact? He can do all types of powder coating and ceramic coatings just to name a few. PM if so.
Ceracote is used on guns too if I'm not mistaken. My cb handle was outlaw for years and I always thought a comepletely blacked out KW would be cool, the stacks, grill ,aluminum rims everything on the truck (black).
With mine, that is what i am working towards. He can do a air dry coating in flat satin and gloss black for soft materials and the oven dry for metals. He does firearms all the time and is doing my .45 Ruger in digital ACU cammo to match my combat uniform when i was with the Army in baghdad. He doesnt mind the website on here so check it out if you want. www.streamlinecustomcoatings.com
