OK, now I see, I was looking at the good one. He said "closest to the engine", don't the rubber plugs go to the back? It's been about 15 years since I did the plug repair on my old '90 truck, I can't remember.
my bad LOL it is the one farthest from the engine...but im pretty sure there are plugs at both ends
Finally got the trans back together. First waiting for parts then had surgery on my right arm and it made it kind of difficult to work on it, had to get a buddy to help me with it.
Anyway got it back together and back on the road, works great now
Had this happen to my truck somtime last summer, but i got the parts from ford. I was lucky and broke the 1/2 fork in nuetral, so i had to start at stop signs in 3rd. Good old 300 did though.
Id be scared that when it happened it was in gear, then putting it in another using a different fork. POP, bad things would happen.
And to fordman 1090 mine broke while in second if i let the clutch out i could feel the transmission twisting the whole truck, certainly a bad thing. After a long time of fiddling it went into neutral then it was 3 hard 3rd gear starts to get home. Clutch didn't like it. Did I mention I actually drove 5miles towards my house stuck in second before i managed to get it into 3rd?
I'am working on my 95 f-150 replacing 1st. and 2nd shifting fork, after getting the fork off I turn the top cover over for some reason and a needle like bearing fell out, now I don't know where it came from. Can you help?

Yep, I did that too. I believe it's held captive inside the rod - there's a spring in there too IIRC. It wasn't too bad to re-load - just hold it in place as you tap the end of the rod in.
Does the needle bearing like thing go down inside the spring? best I can tell? Thanks for your help. John
I forget exactly now, but I believe the spring goes in the hole and then the button goes down the same hole over it so that there's some pre-load on the botton when it gets pushed in.
That's just from memory though combined with what I think would make sense. I recall I was only "pretty sure" I was putting it back correctly as I too wasn't paying attention very close when I pulled it apart. I guess I got it right - it's been fine.
