I went to fire up my `94 Bronco yesterday since it has been sitting about a month. I cycled the key to prime the fuel system and it fired right up as normal. Today it doesnt start and fuel pump wont cycle off when key is in run position. There is gas in tank, and 40 psi on fuel rail. Any suggestions????
check voltage at fuel tank, should be battery voltage at key on engine off. The fuel pump can be jumped to override the computer shutdown. The test plug OBD has a connection that's nearest the engine when the plug is properly stowed. When the connection is grounded the fuel pump keeps running. Might be a short to ground in that wiring.
Ill bet its a fried fuel pump relay. When you key it the EEC does a 1-2 second prime and cuts out. If it stays on, either the FP relay is stuck open or the EEC is done for (which
I doubt).
I have exactly 101 of those relays, all OEM Ford and new. If someone needs a few... The fuel pump is not cycling just as I stated in the first post. It stays on. The fuel pump will not quit until I turn the key off. Today I tried something that made a difference. I jumped the solenoid on firewall while key was on. The motor sluggishly started right up. Check engine light is on and motor runs like the SPOUT is not plugged in. I am having fears about the ECM, and hope just something simple in the loop.

Pull the code on the CEL, more than likely its something and dumb as "TPS out of voltage range" or "EGR malfunction" that is sending the ECC into fail safe mode (no timing). ECCs either work or they dont, its the sensors that fail. This still wont solve the FP priming issue, that is totally separate electrical circuit related issue.
IF the EEC is working it would cut the power to fuel pump after the key is turned. By jumping the solenoid on fender, I am putting power to the TFI that should allow vehicle to start. But without the support of EEC, the timing wont advance. I can pull the SPOUT and nothing changes. So with power to ignition and fuel pump running, I have bypassed the loop for EEC to do anything. I need to make sure there is power to the EEC relay, then to the EEC. Hopefully it will be fairly simple to trace out whats not working.
