I have a quick question for you all. My fuel filter is black. I know/think my O-rings are bad but I will correct that problem in the spring. I also think I have algae in my tanks so I treated them with KD 100 today (I think it was K100 something like that) anyway, I treated both tanks and on the rear tank I threw in a quart of type F ATF. My question is when should I start changing my fuel filters with the treatments? I was thinking as each tank runs out or when I switch them over. Does that seem right?
Thanks
This type of thing is getting my goat. I guess my question is what is the fuel filter suppose to look like, say after 10K miles, bright white? I've changed my filter twice in 20K and both times it is black looking, but the fuel look good in the filter. So this is an indication I should tear into the engine and start replacing parts? Or is it just doing it's job?

Most times its not algae.
Algae will have a nasty stink to it.
Most of the time its fuel dropout. Try a google.
Dead algea and fuel dropout will form a sludge on the bottom
of the fuel tank.
I thought the filter would look a brownish color. I don't remember it looking black until recently. I know my O-rings need changing but I just want to make sure that algae isn't an issue too. I didn't see sludge in the bowl just a blue-ish fuel in the bottom. All I know is a sharp drop in GPM after a fill up at a station. I have used different stations since then but my millage still stinx. This is a stab in the dark, I hope it worx. I am just not sure on the fuel filter change intervals during this process. As far as the goat goes...I am not sure if you want to get your goat or just let it graze. That is a funny saying.
We've had algae problems before in our bulk barrels. I can't remember for the life of me what product we've used to help cure the problem. I doubt there'd be any empty jugs of the stuff around. It always seems like you have the problem cleared up and then it returns, so be persistant with the tank treatments. That gunk will be in the system for awhile.
I wish I could answer the fuel filter color question... but mine seem to have a different shade of color to them than most.
The funny part is I used GPM twice!, LOL!.............."POP"
farm69, thanks for the tip. I will keep batteling the algae tank after tank after tank untill the whole bottle is gone. I just want to be sure I am changing the filter at proper intervals.
When I went through it I used CRC BioCon. I used twice the recommended amount the first fill up (both tanks) then the second fill up I used the recommended amount in each tank then on the third tank I changed the fuel filter.
