re-chrome wheels

I have a set of Ford factory aluminum wheels on my 02 Excursion, they are getting to show some pitting, especially where the wheel weights were. Has anyone tried to have the wheels chromed, or re-finished in another way, or is it not cost effective? Any input is appreciated, thanks.

These wheels are polished and clearcoated. Once the clear coat is damaged, the wheels do tarnish easily. You might want to try polishing them by yourself first and applying a good coat of wax on them afterwards to prevent similar damage. It's always the most cost effective to do it yourself. Next most expensive alternative is to take them somewhere for polishing and waxing or clear coating Most expensive would be to chrome them and there would probably be no guarantee on the finish as the wheels are so old. That's a big advantage of living in the desert, you don't have to deal with this kind of issue.
