What Trans Do I Have
Can someone tell me what trans is in my 2004 F150 5.4 (4x4)? I wasnt sure if they have a James Bond code name like the one in my Supercoupe, its a M5R2. The trans is shot in my truck and I was going to see what I could find for a replacement. Would one out of a 2005 5.4 4x4 work?
Also, I assume since the Transmission Malfunction light came on, there are stored codes. Can I remove the codes myself? Thanks for the help.

- Exterior Paint Code
- Region Code (not listed)
- Domestic SpeciaOrder Code (not listed)
- Wheelbase Code
- Brake Code
- Interior Trim Code
- Tape/Paint Pinstripe Code
- Radio Code
- Axle Code
- Transmission Code
- Spring Code
Transmission Codes:
U – Automatic 4R70W (F-150, F-250)
E – Automatic E4OD (F-150, F-250)
M – 5 speed manuaoverdrive (F-150, F-250, Ranger)
D – Automatic 5 speed (Ranger)
T – Automatic 4 speed (Ranger)

Not to question your integrity or effort to help as I do appreciate it. But all of the info I have found shows the 4R75E being for 05-08 trucks.

hmmmmm.....i will have to do some more checking....is your truck the body style of the 04-08 trucks or is it the 97-03 style??

Display: PRN(D)21 w/ overdrive lockout switch
Fluid: Mercon V
Ratios:
1st 2.84:1
2nd 1.55:1
3rd 1.00:1
4th 0.70:1
Reverse 2.32:1
Trans code: B ('04-'05), Q ('06+), F ('06+ Mark LT)
Looks like it was called the B series transmission for 2004-2005 F150's and then it went to trans code Q for 06+ series trucks.
Just for future reference here are the transmissions used on 2004+ F150's (New Body Style)
F150 4.2/4.6 = 4R70E (700 lb-ft)
F150 5.4 = 4R75E (750 lb-ft)
150HD 5.4 = 4R75E(750 lb-ft) or 4R100 (1000 lb-ft)

Will the trans be marked somewhere? This is driving me crazy. I am trying to find a good used one prior to dumping the cost of a rebuild or new unit for now if possible.
The guy gave me a quote of removing, fully rebuilding with 2/24 warranty and re-installing 1700. Does that sound right. Its a reputable shop and a lil old man that's been doing trans work since the dawn of time.
