Can someone tell me what trans is in my 2004 F150 5.4 (4x4)? I wasnt sure if they have a James Bond code name like the one in my Supercoupe, its a M5R2. The trans is shot in my truck and I was going to see what I could find for a replacement. Would one out of a 2005 5.4 4x4 work?
Also, I assume since the Transmission Malfunction light came on, there are stored codes. Can I remove the codes myself? Thanks for the help.

Reason: ooops
My truck is a '04 4x2 and it has the 4R75E transmission. Your should have it also.
I hate to be a PIA but I have to put this out there again. I took my truck to a shop to a trans shop and although the guy didn't LOOK at the truck. He stated I have a 4R75W not the 4R75E as stated. How can I find out what I really have?
Will the trans be marked somewhere? This is driving me crazy. I am trying to find a good used one prior to dumping the cost of a rebuild or new unit for now if possible.
The guy gave me a quote of removing, fully rebuilding with 2/24 warranty and re-installing 1700. Does that sound right. Its a reputable shop and a lil old man that's been doing trans work since the dawn of time.
Call the dealer and tell them your VIN and they will give you your type tranny. Good luck to you, we are going thru this atm too. 04 FX4, with 104000 on the truck and the transmission is gone.
