so whats the deal with the door ajar sticking on I know its supposed to be a common problem with the 97s. I think mine is in the back door but i dont see a switch, is it in the fuse box because i have also had recent problems with the fuse repetidly blowing for the trailer lights? can anyone tell how to fix this problem the lights eventualy go out but its extremly annoying. thanks
Spray all your door latch mechanisms inside including the rear hatch and window latch generously with WD-40, this should take care of your door ajar problem.
Sounds like the switch for the door ajar light switch is stuck. Spray all you door hinges and also check all the switches and see if they are stuck. Also like "madsonp" said spray the door latch mechanisms so they are lubricated also.

There are two, one for the glass and one for the door. There is one switch in each of the latch mechanisms. Both are difficult to spray with WD-40 because of their positioning. I took the panel off the door and had a much easier time finding and spraying both of them.

Look up under the left rear corner of the vehicle for the trailer wiring connectors. The wiring going into the connectors tend to corrode. That could be the source of the short.
TO trouble shoot which door: (if you door chime is working)
Shut all doors
start vehicle
put in gear and pull forward
door ajar lights
Stop vehicle, put in park, leave key in and running
open drivers door chime should sound (this one is working) shut door
Reach across to pass door-open door, chime should sound (this one is working) shut door
Reach to rear door - open door, chime should sound (this one is working) shut door
try remaining door on other side (need really long arms)
As you guessed you can also get out and get into the back while it is in park to open the doors and listen for the door open chime
WHICH EVER ONE DOES NOT CHIME IS THE ONE WITH A STICKING DOOR AJAR SWITCH
I was having this same trouble and can tell you that liberal doses of WD40 will work. It drives me nuts to have something on my truck not working. Earlier threads on this same subject gave me the answer to fix everything so far....
So how do I check which door it is if the chime isn't going off? It's getting pretty annoying, even the code scanner won't tell me. I've used two cans of contact cleaner already too.
I had the same issue, but mine wasn't the door locks, it was either a blown fuse or the wrong amp in a fuse location. I didn't pay attention to which it was, but I changed 2 yesterday under the dash and wahlah, the door ajar, interior lights remaining on and dead battery issues has been resolved. Now if I could just get blinkers and hazards to work.
Here's a little more detail hoping someone can help.
Door Ajar light on always
no door chime
all 4 doors, window and tailgate switches heavily sprayed with contact cleaner.
doors do not auto lock at 5mph
dome lights go out at 5mph
radio goes off with the key now
all fuses good
battery disconnected for 30 minutes
i just wish i knew where to start without pulling all 6 switches to check each one.
thanks in advance for any help
