dumb E4OD questions
ok ive been reading on here today and keep seeing trans topics, i got the e4od trans, and have thought about the idea of a shift kit, but my truck will hardly see heavy loads ( maybe upwards of 4k once in a blue moon ) but generally either empty or under 1500, so i think the shift kit may be overkill, the trans shifts fine now, and i want to keep it that way, i have read of putting a cooler on it, on these trannys what is the 'best' size to put on it, also i read put a temp sensor on it, would you be tapping into a factory sensor or add a aftermarket one, if aftermarket what would you guys recommend, also i was looking about a shift kit and found this
TransGo Performance E4OD-HD2 - TransGo Performance Shift Kits - Application - SummitRacing.com
and thanks to hav24wheel for his write up on installing one i feel confident that i could handle it, question is is this a good price/good kit, and would it be practical for someone who isnt gonna work the truck daily, more of a daily driver...
sorry for the book but just want to keep my tranny alive for many miles to come

you already know the answer (check your Ranger)..
as this is a project truck, I suggest swapping to a manual trans ..
the fact that 99% of trans shops out there call themselves an "Automatic Transmission Repair" shop says it all ..
clutches are easy ..

definately been throwing around the idea of swapping to a standard, as it stands i have a chance ( once the white stuff leaves lol ) to pick up a 82 f150 with the 300-6 and a 4speed 4wd for 200, thinking about getting it, even if for nothing else just the engine, but that way i would have a full dononr truck for parts for the trans swap, but at the same time dont want to toss a good trans

you've already have a 'small' truck with good (OK, better than the 5.8) MPG .. but you might consider dropping in the 300 and standard (if it's in decent shape) if you wanna pull and work on the 5.8 in the mean time .. then drop in the fresh 5.8 and you'll have a great truck .. maybe sell the 'leftovers' .. scrap metal is also at a 'high' nowadays ..
it's an auto .. not a 'good' trans in my book .. toss it if/when you have a chance ..
you'll never need a 'shift kit' w/ a standard .. you make the decision each and every time ..
the only time I would even consider an auto is if I had to drive in 'city' traffic on a daily basis .. but that would, in and of itself, never happen again .. used to live on Long Island ..
