So your moving to Japan? That sounds sweet, I would be really intimated to move to another country though.

I had a customer coming into the coffee shop for a while and he used to talk about his daughter all the time and said that when she was in high school she went to Japan her senior year of high school as an exchange student. She liked it so much that she moved there and has been there for 2 years now. It sounds like an awesome place but the language barrier kinda freaks me out. Plus just moving to another country in general would be pretty intense. Good luck though and let us know how it goes.

Congratulations... I went there for a week in the late 80's for work..

Beautiful place, but it will take some getting used to.. It's a big culture shock from the US..

I remember they have umbrella racks at the entrance to the businesses for you to put one in, and it will be there when you come out.. In the US it would have been gone as soon as you entered the door.

The language barrier is tough too.. I remember just pointing a lot at the menu for what I wanted to order..

The first night I was there they told me I would wake up at 2am it's normal.. I said I never get up in the middle of the night.. Well I was up at 2am that night..

Took a couple weeks before I was back on US Schedule..

Enjoy it while you can..

That's going to be a fun tour for you. Enjoy and be a great ambassador of the US.

I went to Yokosuka (sp) in 1981 and had a very very good time. I was single then. I rode the bullet train to Tokyo and saw the sights. Japanese people are awesome!

However, you might be craving a good thick affordable steak when you come home! LOL.

A air traffic controller in the air force my brother lived there for 2 years back in the 70's. He had a 16 mm movie camera and made many 10 min videos of his stay. After his stint was up and he came back to the states he talked for hours on end about how wonderful it was living in Japan, and of the great friends he made while living there. After viewing the home made movies all I could think of was "sardine city".

Where are you going? I spent 2 years in Sasebo, 96-98. I really enjoyed it. The people are genuinely friendly, low crime, good food. Nagasaki is only an hour or so from Sasebo, so I went to see Peace Park. I was in Yokosuka ("Yo-koo-ska") and got the opportunity to climb Mt Fuji. Take advantage of the cultural education available there.

Wow. NC to Japan. Fair warning- no grits-n-gravy over there. However, Kobi beef is the best in the world. Mmmmm steak. Where do ya think they came up with the "Shogun Steak House" idea here? I had my experience on Okinawa in '69-'72. Great people, great culture, and great history. It will be a tremendous experience for your kids, I know it was for us.
