I have a 2002 Ford F150 4x4 with a 4R70W Trans and I went to the local Napa to get a transmission filter and I was asked if it had a shallow or deep pan I didnt know and they have no specs in there info stating what they are. Minus pulling off the pan and getting one after I get it apart has anyone ran into this? Ilooked at both filters and they look identical except one has longer pickup tube. Any help would be appreciated.

 

If your pan is flat on the bottom, it is the shallow pan. The deep sump pan is obvious when you look at it. Has a noticeable bulge hanging down. The filter pickup goes down into that bulge.
