ok so i got onto ATS diesel support messenger and tried getting the parts numbers and prices on the upgraded outlet and downpipe he told me p/n outlet housing is 202 201 3056 cost $283.50 and down pipe p/n 205 903 3056 cost 84.99 i asked to make sure this was for idi and he confirmed this. this sound right ? i thought it was like $500 or am i missing something?
Don't know for sure on the outlet, but that sounds right for the downpipe. I got one a couple months back and I'm pretty sure thats about what I paid for the downpipe.
so what was it people have been getting for $500? i guess i am slightly confused on what all i need to upgrade my stock ford turbo setup
those price are correct ghetto joe. and the reason youve heard that some have been paying $500, is that it also includes a new turbine housing as well some people purchase that with the outlet housing and down pipe because the outlet housing is bolted onto the turbine housing with 5/16 12pt bolts and for some turbos they are rusted on so badly that there is a possibility they will break off in the housing so they eliminate that chance by buying the housing also
I've been in touch with ATS for the last three weeks and still getting the same 2 answers. They have the outlet housing and down pipe in stock but the turbine housing is one of two stories. I've been told they will have it in on March 3d and also been told it will be March 19. The "kit" (Part# 202-903-3158) includes new turbine housing, outlet housing and down pipe and is $575 dollars. The only way I've been able to find it is do a search of the part number. ATS has finally gotten a picture of the whole unit on their website. You can be put on a list and they will contact you when it's in, so I've been told. I aint waitin to get lost in the shuffle so I call back every 2 or 3 days.
That is the outlet housing, and just to confirm those prices ARE correct. I was live chat with them yesterday. Write that p/n for the outlet cause It's not on their site
The turbine housing is identical to the stocker on most trucks, but it's a hell of a lot easier to just put together new parts than it is to take apart old ones and try to put new parts on them.
I just bought a 4" stainless steel Diamond Eye system off ebay for just under $400 bucks with a 5" tip (and a free t-shirt and hat that I'm still waiting for) with a big flow through muff. Don't buy off their website, get if off ebay. They're called "The Power Shop" and are in Enumclaw WA. I couldn't wait for ATS to get the parts in stock before I put the system on. Must be the excited little boy in me. Anyway, it sounds good with the flattened out junk stock down pipe so I'm anxiously waiting to hear what it's going to sound like with the three inch down pipe. Just wanted to throw this out there.
Do you NEED the turbine housing? Will I be fine with just the ATS downpipe & the outlet flange on my '94 IDI turbo?
Somebody above mentioned the turbine housing's nice for people who have rusty parts. Mine's got 284K but it's been a good ole' southern rust-free GA/FL truck it's whole life. (yeah, rubbin' that in y'all's face, sawwy!) Can't imagine there's anything that a little PB Blaster & a heat torch won't take care of...
What's the benefit of the ATS turbine housing if it's identical to stock? What's the benefit of paying $575 vs $300ish for just the downpipe and outlet? My tax return wants to know! My tax return's quiverin' with anticipation like a lab in hunting season!
Also - does anyone know how many people are on the ATS wait list for the outlet flange? Glad there's been enough interest to get ATS to start producing them again.
Turbo Upgrade Kit - 1993-94 Ford 7.3L IDI Turbo. New Turbine Housing, Wastegated Outlet Housing, and 3" Downpipe
The ATS Ported Shroud Compressor Housing, designed to increase your turbo life by eliminating the damaging effect of compressor surge. When performance products are added to increase horsepower, the compressor wheel accelerates faster and compressor surge and flutter becomes more apparent and damaging.
Our Compressor Housing is designed with a 4" intake and exclusive inducer bleed ring. This results in a 13% increase in choke flow allowing more air into the compressor wheel, and inducer bleed broadens the range of the compressor wheel, smooths out air flow and eliminates turbo compressor surge. Note that the stock compressor housing only has a 3" intake.
This is the ad on the ATS site. I don't see why you couldn't just get the outlet and down pipe but if you're gonna get that far into it, get the complete system if you can. You can see the benefits in their ad and I saw somewhere (can't remember where) a graph on the horse power increase with the system and I believe stock exhaust, but it added 25 horse.
