I am new to this and have been reading about the cai...i am looking at a s&b, volant, or k&n? does anyone have any opinions on these? I would like to get the good sound from under the hood...i have an 08 5.4l
I have the S&B on my 5.4 and it sounds awesome. At WOT it sounds like an old 4 bbl carb. I think it has a few extra HP but it isn't much difference power wise and no different MPG wise but coupled with the Magnaflow exhaust it sounds great..
I have an S&B and I love it. It looks great with the see through lid, It was great priced, And the sound you get under acceleration is like an 80"s cop car from the movies.
I'm not going to argue that they do make noise......but 300 bucks is alot for noise....I"m just of the opinion that there are alot cooler things to spend that kinda coin on....
Ok well i think i have made my decision and will skip the cai for now...i am going to get the Flowmaster American Thunder Exhaust System, 17417. from what i have heard this is what i am looking for in a mean sounding exhaust....
My truck is a 2009 F150 SS SuperCab 4.6-3V with Volant CAI, Airraid Throttle Body Spacer and FlowMaster 50 SUV series muffler. My avg gas mileage with 87 unleaded is 19.3mpg. That's city driving. I havent had a chance to take on a long haul yet. I picked up an easy 3 plus miles a gallon. I believe the mods have increased HP and torque - at least 10HP and no idea on the torque. Double digits for sure. Off the line it is a whole lot cripser and sounds like a truck should. Total investment so far is just south of 1000 bucks. Next investment is either headers and true dual exhaust with hi-flow cats and series 50 exiting out the rear sides or the new projector style headlights.
Would I recommend the mods to anyone else - you betcha I would.
"log" gas mileage? - the wife does the bills so we dont live on the street - i made a deal with her a long time ago. we both make the money, she saves it and i buy truck parts - so far we aint that broke.
