After some sleuthing, because she ran rough then stopped running altogether. I replaced the distrubtor cap and spark plugs. Alberta fired up before two rotations! I'm so excited. I've never heard her sound this strong. Next weekend ill TRY and finish the fan wiring and maybe rebuild the rear brakes ... than I can drive her, safely 😉

Talks to a guy that is in the market to BUY my blue truck...probably sold a set of trail grooved/cut 35x12.50x15 BFG mudders to him for his farm rig.

So what did I do, I hopefully made some truck parts money.

Bought a new hub and rotor because apparently the guy who last drove this truck 17 years ago had a wheel bearing go bad and just continued to drive it. That spun the race inside the hub and let the race move around. Can't buy just the hub from my parts guy so had to buy a rotor hub assembly. Oh well at least I'm one step closer to getting it back on the road.

Well your parts guy needs to dig a little deeper. Was it used or new? You CAN buy just a hub...have to knock out the lugs to separate the 2 pieces...

What ever he charge you for a rotor/hub assembly? Hope it was cheaper than this place?

Learned the "don't buy cheap valve covers" lesson. My stock covers are keepers are they are OE, but I wanted to dress things up a bit. Out of frustration of not finding covers that I actually wanted (not many choices for 351M), I bought chrome cheapies from LMC for $35. What could go wrong!?

No fit, that's what/. The splash guards inside them are just far enough out of tolerance that the fitment is thrown off. Would have taken too much pounding and bending and swearing for my liking.

Manned up and bought the black satin, ribbed for her pleasure, Ford Racing covers. Even though I didn't want them to say Ford Racing...

where I got mine from they don't sell just the hub and only one I could find by itself was like $185 but yea I paid way less then both of the ones you found. It's nice having a commercial account at some big parts places.

Just wanted to make sure you were aware of the fact that just the hub could be bought.

adjusted idle speed

Not sure why, but the idle speed had been creeping up. Initially the idle speed was set to 650 RPM in drive, but the speed was consistently well over 800, and often around 900

I kept forgetting about it, until shutdown became problematic. Upon shutdown, the truck would diesel(?), run-on and backfire.

Well today, I broke out the screwdriver and turned the idle speed down about a half turn. The idle speed in drive is now about 670, but I'll drive it a couple days to see what it does.

I suppose we're on winter gas, and it's been relatively cold, so maybe that's affected the idle. Maybe I'll have to raise it back up when it warms up. We'll see!

Yessuh, with those cold, dry temperatures you're having theses days it's little wonder the idle is up to keep warm. Hehe....

Have thought about a vacuum leak?

Idle speed going up.

long before I would suspect the winter gas. I would check for a vacuum leak. I'll bet you have one someplace. That's what starter fluid is for. Spray it all around the base of you carburetor and intake manifold. Go slowly. When you hit a leak. The idle will shoot up. If that doesn't find it. Get a good Edelbrock fuel injection unit for it. A 1000 to 1500. Dollars never ever ever have to worry about a carburetor again in your life. Better throttle response. Better fuel mileage. And it will never change idle on you again.
