I have a '96 250 7.3 I burnt the old tranny up bad and found a rebuilt one out of a "91. My tranny guy says no biggie just need a dif converter because the 91 is a 4 lug and one other thing not sure what he said. Anyhow my question is can't I get the flywheel from that '91 instead of replacing the converter which is new with a 6 lug. Dont beat me up too bad guys I am just tryin to save a few bucks being a single dad with all three of my kids and I am new to the diesel world.
Thanks in advance
Jim
Hey don't worry about it were all trying to save money These days! But he is right about the 4 lug but I'm almost possiive that tranny is difrent from the powesrrokes trannys on 94.5 and up. Even if he did get it to work I'm sure the tranny would go eventually considering the powesrrokes is much stronger
Isn't it still doable to just swap out the 6 lug flywheel to the 4 lug of the '91. I guess the big question is is the 96 7.3 balanced internally or externally
I can't remember if the solenoid body is different or not. The trans will work if the connector plugs into the solenoid body. If it doesn't you can swap the solenoid bodies.
Thanks guys got a new triple billet and new electronics. I should have her back this weekend just in time to take her out and get r dirty. Next mod will be bigger injectors and intercooler, then I think I will be done for awhile. Already have 4 " exhaust, chipped, banks shift kit, and cold air intake. Is there anything else you would recommend?
