electric fan will deff help, 60 less pounds of rotating mass or something like that? my last truck with 3:55s got that same mileage, however, 1800 is a great rpm to run with 3:55s, if ford did make a 3:00 rearend, which they dont, youw ould be at really low rpms, zero boost and lugging the motor to do 80 so you would have less efficiency on the highway. you pretty much maximized the mileage on that truck. the highest mileage usually posted is like 21 or 22 is really high. if you add a 4" straight pipe exhaust you might be able to bump that up to 21. also a highway econo burned tune on a chip may help aswell! sure helped me when i had that truck.

on the other site dave wittmer runs a set of 3.08 gears. im not sure where they are from but he said he thought they were discontinued. i wannted to get a set too. im sitting at about 19 mpg im hoping that i can get up to 24. im planning to do an intercooler, injectors of some sort and good econo tuning. i hadnt thought about electris fans too, that should help. i think 23-24 is completely possible out of these truck if you do it right. you might use a .89 exhaust housing i think that could help too

Whay specifically does this SUPERCHIPS do? Is it better than a preset 6 position chip?

I looked into this a year ago. Never acted on it cause I have a 4x4 and the front diff looked like a nightmare to change. Anyway I did find as low as 3.08 in the aftermarket. For now I'm running 3.55 with 285/75R16 tires.

The electric fan idea is interesting...

Rory
