'78 wouldn't have a 360, it would have a 351M. I know, your grill may have been changed.
Either way, more stroke = more torque, so I'd go for it. More torque is always a good thing in a wrecker.
I'd leave it as-is...I've always kinda wanted a wrecker. Truth be told, this weekend I was looking at a '79 D***e one ton wrecker with a 440 Holmes, a 400 V8, and a 4 speed. Front end looked like the old Simon and Simon Power Wagon. Would need a new trans and radiator to start out with, and I can't really afford that right now.
Yea the grille assembly has already been changed I assume unless ford did something early..lol.. I really love the fe engine I just bought it saturday and havent changed any fluids or done a tune up and it boogies even witht he 360. I had a 79 150 with a 400 horse 302 witht he 4spd it pulls almost as well. Oddly enough i only spent $600 for the truck with free delivery so its a good start to ensuring i dont overspend the rebuild like the last one.

gotcha!!!!.. although i dont really want to spend $20,000 on a truck just to destroy it pulling people out of mud but i thought it would be cool to cruise around with a mint 76 classic tow
Paint it up or decal it with a fictitious garage name... like "Uncle Jesse's Garage / Hazzard County" . Get it?!
You can't forget to put a sign on the sling that says "reserved for Chevrolets." Or "Designated Chevy parking."
I don't know if I would actually use it as a wrecker for fear of tearing it up, but at the same time I don't know if I could resist!
Are you going to put new stacks on it, or will you be going to something more conventional? I kinda like them, but I think they should be turned out to the sides and straight cut instead of having the lids on them. Would look more truck-y that way.
yea i just got her stuck in snow covered gravel and decided to just plow thru 4 ft of packed snow, that push bumper did great!!!!

Or Homer's busted knuckel garage, repair or despair, 23 1/2 hrs towing. gotta have time to hit the necessities of life sometimes.
I would find it hard to fix it up and not use it. However, it would be sweet fixed up as a looker. YOu don't see that every day, so it would make it special. I like those big honkin lights on the cab.
I am deff keeping the stacks, not the current ones but yes i do agree slash cut side turned stacks is the way i will go. she will be pearl black full tint and keeping it light on the chrome.
