pedal problems

Hey guys... feel a bit silly here...

I am having trouble installing my gas pedal...

My truck is a 65(66)

The "base" that the pedal should attach to has a horizontally running post, grooved for two c-clips, and somehow there's a weird spring-type-thing involved.

If anyone has, or can take some pics of how the setup should look, or even talk me through it, I'd surely appreciate it.

Sounds to me like you are referring to a 65, the 66 is attached from above.

You prolly would be ahead to go to a yard and get another pedal. I believe 66-72 is the same.

Sammy, I can't help you here, but I would like to have the answer to the same question. I have the same setup. I found the gas pedal in the glovebox. Obviously the PO tossed it in there when it fell off. I cant imagine getting snaprings on there unless you unbolted the pedal assembly. I got the pedal centered on the shaft and bent the ears in to the middle. It's been working just fine, but I know it's not right.

I did the same thing! Totally incorrect, and remained a bit loose, so i took it off and am just pressing the bar...

The assembly is meant to be removed to refurbish with a new pedal.

Of course that makes the clips easier, but how about that z-type spring? I can't quite see where or how it goes.

1965 F100/250 2WD: There are two different gas pedals / I'm assuming the OP's truck is 2WD. 4WD is not the same.

C5TZ9725B .. Pedal Assy / The pedal pad itself bolts to the floor / Fits 1965 F100/250 2WD before serial number 696,001.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
C5TZ9725Z .. Pedal Assy / Fits: 1965 F100/250 2WD from serial number 696,001 / 1966 F100/250 2WD.

This pedal is suspended. The spring the OP is refering to fits on the backside of the rubber pedal pad to allow it to spring back into position.

The rubber pedal pad by itself (C5AZ9735D) also fits 1965/67 Galaxie/LTD & 1966/77 Bronco.

The gas pedal spring (C5AZ9C804B) also fits: 1965/68 Galaxie/LTD / 1966/77 Bronco / 1968/71 Thunderbird / 1969/71 Mark III / 1971/72 Maverick/Comet/Mustang/Cougar.

1967/72 F100/350: The pedal assy (C7TZ9725N); rubber pedal pad (C5ZZ9735D); and spring (C5ZZ9760B) are not the same.
