Where did you get a 6mm BB? Thanks.

They make stainless BB's - I wanted one of those, but would have had to wait. I just got a copper coated one - just the same kind you put in a kid's BB gun. I would not put a zinc coated, lead, or galvanized one in there - just because of diesel fuel not being good with these materials.

I purchased a GDS Spring was waiting to purchase a fuel pressure gauge. I guess I will just add it to my collection of parts. Thanks for the information on the spring Mark

1954oldred and rocky1074 -

I appreciate your word of thanks. I pm'd a few people that I knew were considering the spring (or had installed it) as soon as I found out. Those that responded back with a word of thanks are "good folks"! That's what keeps me interested in this Forum!!

Seems to be a surge of intrest in the spring and bb mod. but I have yet to read why any one would want too. Are they after more power? Or am I missing something????Do these engines lack fuel pressure and need a milder bump?

The stock spring gets weak and allows the fuel pressure to get low, into the danger range for the injectors (minimum 45 psi). The BB mod gives the stock spring a 8-10 psi bump to keep your injectors happy.

Thanks Cartmanea, I guess that gives me more reason to buy my gauges and get em installed.
Does any one know if using one like the insight that reads thru the OBD port is acurate enough to rely on.? Seems I read a lot about the dash gauges are worthless. So does this mean the sensors are the same for the engine computer as the gauges and are just as phony?

The OBDII readers don't do fuel pressure or EGTs.

The Edge Insight will read EGT's if you purchase the Edge THERMOCOUPLE (EGT PROBE)
Part #98600. You will have to get a separate gauge to read fuel pressure

These are not my instructions I found it an another post!!! If I find some pictures I will send them!!!

This is how i performed the bb mod on my truck. This mod is to boost fuel pressure up from 55 to about 75. First i removed thermostat housing by removing using a 10 mm. I then pushed the thermostat housing to the front to give me room to remove fuel pressure regulator. Then remove the line on the fpr. The bolts on the fpr are a t27 torx. Remove all four bolts holding it to the upper fuel filter. Watch out because the spring has it under pressure. Make sure the spring and brass poppet valve doesnt fall out. Take a .177 bb and slide it in the brass poppet and reassemble everything. You will lose some coolant doing this mod so make sure you have some on hand. Some companies sell a longer spring but the bb is cheaper

I used a 6 mm BB (a little larger than the .177) and I did not remove the thermostat or the upper radiator hose. I saw about 10 psig increase.
