Morning Boss,
Sorry I couldnt reply sooner, but I'm here now. By the description of your concern. it sounds like you have covered most of the problems, front cover cavitation, leaks, no coolant in oil. With your concern being only on hwy drives, and venting from the degass bottle, I would suspect the problem would be with the thermostats. I have had a couple where the seals on the thermostat would come loose and stick one of the thermostat closed. I would also make sure the cooling fan is working correctly.

We do get M-Time when there is no labor operation or something like broken bolts or brush gaurds. That's about the only time.

I'll post a new thread for a 6.4lit engine build video I'm working on!

This repair was for replacement of the H/P pump, all injectors and fuel line to remove debris. Not shown was the removal and cleaning of fuel tank and lines. This repair covered by warranty paid 25.5 hours, actual time was 28 hours. Watch the video and come by my Facebook and become a fan!

I know this post is old but thank you for taking the time to film it and edit it and post it...that stuff takes time. What an eye-opener. Jeez, that's a lot of effort to work on the engine. I have been looking at new (2011) F-250's with Diesel and heard that some repairs require a cab removal and didn't believe it. Wow! Even if the cost was only $50 an hour that'd be $1,275 just to do what you did.

Thank you again for the time you put into the video and the post.

Yes welcome aboard.

Don't be too scared. Actually both the 6.4 and the new 6.7 can be worked on without removal of the cab.

Cab removal is just faster if you have the equipement on the 6.4. There are a few techs that prefer to not remove the cab unless it is extensive.

Thank you. I suspect I will find myself here more in the coming months and years. After review of the current Diesel situation (urea addatives, particulate exhaust filters (supposedly), and cab-off repairs (maybe)) I've decided to keep my 2002 (old...maybe old-old...body-style Dodge Cummins) and buy a new 1/2 ton gas truck for my daily-driver. That is an F-150.

I just ordered (yesterday, order supposedly in the system today) a 2011 F-150 Ecoboost FX4 Super crew, 6' 6" box. First new Ford I've ever bought (or, well, will have bought...when it comes in). Very nervous...had a two 80's F-150's (used) and loved them...back in the day... but never a "new" Ford...and never bought an engine the first year it was offered. I've always been more of a GM kind of guy...but you can't get a crew cab with the 6.5' bed from GM unless you get a 2500 or bigger.

Thank you for the post.

I like the new 6.7 based soley on one test drive but, with concerns about the work on the engine and the urea addatives and so forth I decided, as I just posted to another person, to try a new Ecoboost Super Crew as my daily driver, replacing a GMC 1500 SWB/reg/small cab (baby on the way...June 30 ETA). I'll keep my 2002 Dodge Cummins 2500 for heavy (20+5 goosneck) towing...but for haulin' baby and the other, smaller, trailers I'm going to try the 2011 F150.

Wish me luck...Godspeed...and so forth...I don't like early-adopting anything...'specially a new engine.

EcoBoost is getting some good reviews, you should enjoy the heck out of that one.

Cab Removal

I can understand everyones concerns with the Ford Diesels. In my professional opinion, I would advoid the 6.4lit engines. The cab removal is not really a big deal and just about all repairs can be performed with the cab on. It is just much easier to remove the cab. I did create a newer video showing step by step the cab removal prodecure. As for the new 6.7 lit, wow is all I can say!!! This has been a remarkable engine thus far with absolutely no serious failures! I do see concerns with the urea fluid in the tank and with the injection nozzell, but thats about it. If your looking for a Diesel, that's what I would recommend!
Now for the EcoBoost! Again I say wow! This engine is a great product that was first introduced in the Taurus SHO, Flex and in some Lincolns. As of today, I have yet to see any failures with the engine or turbocharging system. The direct fuel injection is an off spring of the diesel direct injection and has worked flawlessly! With Ford extensive testing on torture tests like towing a full throttle for over 24 hours to running the same engine in the Baja 500 placing 2nd in its class. Teardown of that engine shows no abnormal wear at all! Now being installed into the F-series with great results. From towing 11K lbs from a v-6 and yet still getting 22 MPG or better. You will be more than pleased with your purchase of the EcoBoost!

SrMasterTech,

Would you mind elaborating on why you would personally avoid the 6.4?

Thanks,

Great Video SrMasterTech. Just a couple questions to pass onto you. What is your opinion of TSB 11-4-22 which pays a whopping 8.9 hours (and a whopping 0.2 more from Crew Cab configuration)? As I read through the brief article, my understanding is that we are now to jump the gun and replace the high pressure fuel pump for that amount of time if we retrieve a P0088 in memory. And what does this have to do with a cab removal thread, you folks ask? Well, high pressure fuel pump removal does mandate cab removal. And, since we're on the subject of cab removal, what's your recipe for removing the bolts without spinning the cage nut? Do you prefer the "flame wrench" or the 7/8" socket?
