EPV removal

I get A LOT of smoke on startup. As soon as I step on the accelerator the smoke goes away. Should I replace/remove the EPV? :eek

some smoke is normal on startup in the morning/cold mornings. i get blue smoke which is a combo of glowplugs and injector orings. white smoke is glowplugs. what color is your smoke? when you hear a loud hiss thats your EBPV engaging. you dont HAVE to remove it you can unplug it! its the black 2 wire dongle on the bottom of the compressor housing, youcant miss itl. unplug it and be done with it. but if you want to REMOVE it, you can cut the rod and take off the turbine ebpv housing and drill/grind off the rivets and remove the butterfly valve and the rod slides riight out, i cant remeber what size the freeze plug wwas but go to your local autostore and get a plug to place in the bottom from were the rod comes out. for what its worth, the top freeze plug is the same size as the bottom one needs to be, plus you get a cool added whistle/coo when you build up boost and let off withthe valve removed!!

thanks- i'm just troubleshooting my coldstart/excess blue smoke prob. I replaced the gp's about 3 months ago. I replaced the gpr today. She still didn't want to start- that was real discouraging. On the last time I tried cranking her I noticed that the tact was moving at all as the engine was turning over. Makes me think CPS. Hopefully I can pick up a black one at the international store tommorow. I just hope these guys aren't that expensive. I really want to check my HPO res. level but don't know how. Any help is appreciated

Check your batteries. It takes a lot of juice to light the glow plugs.

if it starts fine then its not the batterys. glow plugs put a massive drain on the bats and if it starts after a good 30 seconds of warming them up then its not the bats. your orings sound like there junk. buuuut, like you said on the hpop res, thers a 1/4 ratchet plug right on the res tank, you cant miss it, on the right on the very top. it should be a 1/4 inch from the top. if not then fill it. but that shouldnt be a smoke issue? im guna go with injector orings just like mine. not that bad, go on ebay and search injector orings. \its a guy named something fish lol 49.99 a back for oring kit for 8 injectors, jim from rosewood reffered him to me, ill be do thoes very soon!

I've already taken them in to test them and they said they were good just needed a charge about 2 months ago. i've charged them since. great directions on how to check the hpop res, but i just dont know where it is. what I'm trying to do with all this is get my truck unaddictied to ether. thanks

The HPOP res is right in front of the fuel filter housing. and the drain plug is right on the right hand side.

Right here my friend.

If your truck is starting fine, not missing and trying to die then leave it alone, nothing at all is wrong. Mine is in absolutely perfect condition right now and it smokes for about 10 minutes in the mornings right now. Or untill I snap the throttle once. It's not missing and all the glow plugs are lighting. It's normal. It's been running in the low teens for temperatures and that is the nature of diesel fuel. Even on ships using diesel for the boilers we have to heat the fuel to get it to burn clean. Otherwise, white smoke. Same as your truck.
