The 5S-47 has lower gearing than the 42. 1st, 2nd & 3rd are lower, and ofcourse further spaced apart. 4th is 1:1 in both.
I ran both and prefer the 47, the low 1st and reverse are nice especially if you tow alot.
Now if I were buying a new trans, I would get a speed....
I ran into a ;ot of problems looking for a used or rebuilt zf5 . The diesel trannies have a very robust input compared to the gassers . I know there has to be a difference in gearing b/c the diesels only turn half of the rpm's .
I worked for a gunsmith for about a yr when I was fresh out of HS . The sigs have a whole lot of moving parts in them compared to most other models . I dont see them as reliable as most pistols on the market . IMO they cant be they have too many parts to break.
That is exactly my problem with more modern military weapons. The kids in these days don't have a clue what they are missing. I carried an M14, M60 and an M16 and guess what my favorite is. It never jammed, broke or missed it's target, Twice in combat with an M16 an was lucky I had a tree to bang it against on both occasions!
Anyway, That was correct the zf 47 was in the 95 up models, 42 was the IDI's and 94.5 powerstroke. They can both handle the HP just fine but the 47 was built to do more than handle it hopefully.
Mine has one. My truck is from the first month of production of the powerstroke too. The 47, according to the ZF website wasn't available untill the 95 model came out. Some 95's still had the 42 until inventory ran out. I've seen both in 95 models.
What month was yours made in Dan? Mine was March I think. I'll have to check the tag again. Far earlier in the year than I thought they made the truck.
I have original manual for mine though. It says 1995 in it.
Get a brownells catalog. I saw them advertising on here a few days ago. You can mail order everything you need from them. The dframe has to go through a dealer and I can help Texas members out with that. I am a gunsmith but I can't build a pistol for anyone else. I would be more than happy to help though or offer guidance.
That brownells catalog has everything you need though. If you want one like mine, get an Ed Brown match barrel and bushing, Wilson combat oversized beavertail and most of the small parts from Wilson too. I also recommend the Wilson combat spring caddy so you can shoot any loads you would ever want to in it. Don't get the extended slide stop and magazine release if it's going to be a concealed carry gun. They get hung up.
My son made the grips on mine. I am busy enough doing rifle stocks so he helps me out in the shop with those.
The parts I used all required a lot of fitting so if you do it yourself i'd recommend getting a book and the tools. Or if you want to spend a weekend out here, I'll trade you some manure shoveling for using my tools and picking my brain. It's really not hard to do at all when you have some help.
The only reason I can see why you couldnt make a gun for a person out of state is cause you would have to ship to from one dealer to another. Cause you need to ship it from one FFL holder to another. Cause I can build you a Pistol Dan, have my mom ship it to you if you have your FFL.
