He be an '02 F350 with the V10, 6sp manual, 4.30 gears, and a weak rear LSD and yes, he's an ex-forest service truck. He's a blast and a half to drive and will practically go anywhere I want to. I've had him almost a year now, and so far, he's taking my abuse a whole lot better than my previous off-roader.
My plans are to replace the exhaust with something a little more potent, an intake, and possibly a programmer from 5 Star Tuning to give me a little more oomph while towing. As far as traction upgrades go, I want to replace the rear LSD or maybe swap it with a detroit locker, although I am concerned with the handling on wet highways if that could throw me into a spin. I also want to add a selectable locker in the front. Other than that, I may leave the rest somewhat stock, unless I get a modding bug and go crazy on him, but we'll see.
After searching for a Ford Truck forum like my Subaru forums, I found you guys the most knowledgeable.
1) almost all public safety vehicles wave at ya when you pass them
2) you gotta be doing something REALLY stupid to get pulled over
3) it cannot hide, no matter what the scenery is, the truck sticks out: parking lots, desert, the woods, don't matter, it sticks out.
Downfalls?
People think your a forest ranger when you pass them on the trails even though it's missing the GSA plates, the USFS stickers, antennas, and the USFS uniform of the drivers.
Also, you cannot "disappear" in the crowd.
Yeah, it was a federal truck.
We have national forest all over the place so, I see their trucks all the time and if it's not forest service, it's border patrol. Now, those guys are hard on their trucks, I wouldn't want one of their retired trucks.
It's probably the green - people around here assume it's a forest service truck.
