This is an easy one for you guys. I'm putting my truck back together. I did a 2wd to 4wd conversion and need to have a rear driveshaft made. On my 2wd there was short driveshaft from the transmission to a frame crossmember, and then another driveshaft from there to the rear axle. Did the 4wd dentsides have this same setup or one shaft from the transfer case to the rear axle. Like I said, it's an easy one! Thanks (Oh I have a 76 f350 SCS, if it matters)
Depends on the wheelbase. Are you using a 133" wheelbase frame? Or did you modify your 137" wheelbase 2wd frame? The 133" trucks use a single driveshaft. For what it's worth.....my 145" wheelbase F-150 4x4 uses a single driveshaft. So, you should be fine.
I left my super camper special frame the way it was, which I believe was the 137" wheelbase. I had thought about using the 2 piece driveshaft setup that was on there, that way I would only need to have the short front section shortened. But then I thought it might be best to just have the one driveshaft. I measured the length of shaft I would need made and it was 71.5 inches long. My biggest concern is that there is no vibration.
I used a dana 44 out of a 76 f250, and the coil spring suspension out of a 150. I wanted coils for the better ride quality. Everything turned out great and everything looks like it came from the factory with 4wd.
