Possesed or What ?

Hey guys ,
91 250 4.9 zf 5spd. Full blown tune up {all motorcraft in the fall} and several sensors including the map sensor,
Here's my story :

drove it to work yesterday , 25 miles or so , parked and came back 5 minutes later , started up fine took off and 20 feet later she fell flat on her face , check engine light and all. started back up , running like crap , still have the check engine light and made it to the job and parked. Left work and it started up land ran like a top. Did the same thing about half way to work today , as soon as the light comes on it's game over. I pulled codes at work and came up with 126 and 181. When I left work today , no light and she ran great all the way home. Double checked codes again , same stuff. It acts like a tps I had go bad on another Ford , but does not throw the code. Any suggestions from the guru's out there ??? This truck has run like new since the fall. Any help would be appreciated.

Intake leak or vacuum leak would be my guess.

I replaced every vacuum line and the juice can last fall. May be the intake ?? took a look a few minutes ago , didn't see anything obvious.

Thanks !

Spray the vac lines with starting fluid and see if it bogs down

Tried all that , no change in engine rpm. In rethinking this , I have been running on the front tank when this has occurred. Going to switch over to the rear tank today and see if the problem comes back. Maybe this is a fuel pump/fuel pressure related deal?

Well , so much for my fuel pump theory. Started out today on the rear tank , started and ran fine all the way to work. Shut her down and went to clock in , came back maybe 5 minutes later , started up and it died and I had the dreaded check engine light. Started back up , had to keep my foot on the gas pedal to keep it running , and every time I let off the gas it wanted to die. Left work today and had the light on start up with the same problems. About half way to the house , the light went off and she ran like a dream. When the check engine light comes on , she runs like crap, light goes off and it's all good. Wish I could go check the codes , but we are in the middle of a major snow storm here right now , and if I don't get the driveway plowed the wife is going to go into Overdrive when she gets home !! You married guys know the story ........ Still leaning to the Tps or maybe the Iac based on other fords with similar problems in the past.

Thanks !

Volks

going to throw a Tps at the old girl when I get home from work today. Think I read on this site that the Tps on the 4.9 is NOT adjustable , so it should just be a direct replacement ??? anyone know for sure ??

Thanks !

That's correct. The MAP sensor code would be where I would start looking though. The lean code is a CM code and if the light is coming on when it starts running bad then there's no reason to ignore the MAP sensor code.
