The V8 engines have an adjustable TPS. As I said, the 4.9L does not.
Didn't get to the parts house today due to work , but at this point I am going to get a new Tps and Map sensor. So far , the lastest twist is that the truck runs great now until I shut it off , check engine light on restart when hot and runs terrible. Oddly enough , the light went off after 20 minutes drive time and it was all good again. I replaced the Map sensor last fall , maybe I got a bad one ? starting to wonder if it may be a cold solder joint inside that gizmo , maybe it is making or breaking connection internally when it warms up or cools down ?? I have seen many boards do that over the years on non automotive stuff , so maybe ?? Heck , she still gets me home !
Advance Auto , guess it's time for a trip to Napa to get a good one ! KOEO test points to the Map sensor , but I thought possibly when it dies , loss of vacuum sets off the code , including the lean code , but if the Map sensor is fried , or bad internals , that could be it. Nothing like chasing intermittent problems .......... another day at the office !
Here is the latest update. Came home from work today , had the hood up in the driveway , and my neighbor stops by. The guy is retired from the State Trans Dept and worked on a zillion Ford Trucks in his day. I told him what was happening , he took one look and told me I had the wrong MAP sensor. The one I replaced last fall from AAP was grey in color , he told me the 4.9 needed to have the black box . Got to thinking about it and almost sure the one I took off was black in color. Got on the phone and starting calling around , probably drove the parts guys nuts , but I located a black MAP box listed for my truck. Limped on down check engine light and all bought it , changed it out in the parking lot and I swear it runs better than before I had this problem. Don't know if you guys have ever heard of this before , but the voice of experience nailed this one for me !
