So in December I was torn between building a new truck or just doing some work to the old one. The dana 44 wouldn't hold a shaft very long after 4.88's and a powerlock. I couldn't decide so I posted the axle's up on craigslist and figured if I can sell them for what I want i'll start a new project. Within about a week they were sold for $900. Couldn't beleive it. So I tore the whole truck down, frame and box went to bone yard and I got a new project on hand
This was it's last day together and to say the least it was pretty rough shape after a year of wheelin
Plan includes-
Reusing the cab, EFI 302, ZF 5speed.
77 Short box frame
Twin stick 205
94 Dana 60 front, Powerlock 5.38's
GM 14 bolt rear, welded 5.38's
3 link front with deaver superflex coils
04 half ton chevy rear leafs
Now that I've got all the big item's it can start going together. It will be a truggy of sorts
I got the frame in the middle of January and started workin on that
After that was done I set the monster in
I have the cab on it now, in the process of making rear cab mounts. The cab will be mounted a few inches rearward on the frame to get a better aproach angle and I'll be hacking about a foot off the front of the frame.
I still have all the wiring in the cab so it will be easy, I am keeping feul injection. This is a trail rig so it will work better for me. If it was just a mud truck it would get a carbed motor.
Just make sure all that wiring is nice before putting it all back together. A lot easier to have a wiring harness perfect before you have a problem and its always nice to have EFI incase you get on some angles.
Nice looking build so far. I'll wait for more to come.
Well I haven't got a much dont lately, still need to finish up the rear cab mounts but here's a pic of how it sits now.
I put one fender on and cut a slit in the inside of the fender and bent it in to get a rough idea of how much I wanna pinch them in. I originally just wanted to keep the stock grill only up there but I think it might get too narrow. Now i'm kinda thinking about keeping the marker lights there. I dont wanna keep the headlights, marker lights and chop the grill cause then the head lights will look huge. Any one have some ideas? I gotta get the front axle under before I know just how narrow I wanna go.
