dash pedal swap ideas???

good evening all, i had a few questions about a swap im considering. i have an 84 f350 quad cab 4x4 with a 460 and a c6. I just picked up a 92 f350 4x4 with a 7.3 and a zf 5spd. the 7.3 has an ats 088 turbo kit on it. Im pondering the idea of dropping the diesel and tranny in my 84. i know i got to swap the core support, and pedal assembly for the clutch, and fuel tanks, my questions..... do the fuel senders from the 92 work with the 84 gauge (ohms wise) would my factory tach from the 460 work with the diesel? or would swapping the 92 dash in be easier? and anything else you guys might have in ideas or problems???.... thanks! justin

The fuel sending units will operate backwards between the years, I found out the hardway! I'm not sure about the tach with diesel engines.

To swap in the 92 dash assy, into the 84 will take some effort as the way the dash units mount in the cabs was changed. You will have to remake mounting tabs and make it work, but it can and has been done.

If you were to swap the whole dash, the pedals would work. If you don't then they don't work out so well. The tack also needs to be a diesel tack to work out, the diesel uses magnetic inductance for a signal while the gas unit uses electrical signal. The 92 senders are different, you missed by one year to get some that do work... One other problem, which maybe can be solved by keeping your t-case, but the speedo for the 92 is electric, while your 84 is cable drive. There are no provisions for the speedo drive on the 92, as it is read off the rear axle.

Wow, I'm starting the same project. I have the same truck - 84 F350 quad cab 4x4 with 460 and C6. Only difference is my donor vehicle is a 90 F250 with 7.3IDI and ZF 5 speed. It looks like the core support will require some cutting and welding to get the diesel radiator to fit; should be a similar scenario for you since I don't think either core support would bolt up to the older sheet metal. I plan on using the transfer case out of the 84. It's a BW1345. If you use the transfecase out of the 92 I think the slip joints in the driveline are a little different. Either transfer case will bolt right up to the ZF5 and I haven't heard of one being better than the other. I think an 84 could have either a Sterling 10.25" rear end or Dana 60; mine has the Dana 60. We would both need the pedal assemblies from a 84-86; earlier ones were manual linkage instead of hydraulic. I can use the steering column from the 90; I don't think the steering column from a 92-97 fits. You could just swap the entire rear end out of the donor. Might have to anyway if you use the Dana 60 front out of the 92 (much better than the Dana 50 TTB) for the gears to match between the front and rear. That's it off the top of my head. Some one else feel free to jump in and correct me if I'm wrong.
