There have been a lot of comments about how the Excursions are just too big for off road. And, the roads do seem a little tight. Okay for Jeeps and Toyotas. But too tight for the Ex. It sounds to me as though we need a specialty bumper to store a chain saw on, don't want to get the inside of the Ex dirty you know, to use to make some room on those trails.
What about a specialty bumper with a chain saw attached to both sides to clear the roads? You know, set up with a switch inside of the Ex so we don't even have to get out to do the work!

Sure, until the cut trees fall on your roof. Seriously though, offroaders have a hard enough time with all the greeny tree huggers. Trails are getting closed left and right. I highly doubt cutting down trees to go offroading will win the hearts and minds and will only further fuel the ORV opposition.
The big trucks are great for the desert or wide cut trails/fire roads but leave the tight trails for the small vehicles.
No doubt it is capable for what it is.... but having owned Jeep cj-5, cj-7, a Scrambler, and a 5.9 limited.... the ex is too nice for me to dirty up too much
but cleaning the outside and inside is enough of a chore that I go to the car wash
(proud to say I have never washed either of my 3 ex's !!!)
Worse yet is the underside....
if you go through mud and sand AND you want to keep your ex for a while,
you should at least spray off the underside and grease the hubs and spindles....
WHAT IS "TOO BIG" ?
My friends who drive "REAL" trucks ( meaning "class six" or higher axles), can't understand why I would feel "comfortable" in anything as "small" as my Excursion.
Depends on what is "too big". My Honda ATV "four wheeler' is just about right for the sand-trips and steep trails I run on - a Jeep-sized vehicle would be way too big.''.
My EXCURSION is just about right for the sorry excuses for cow-trails that we have to drive, for about a mile and a half, to get from our ranch's entrance to the county-maintained roads.
here's the deal, folks. Tailor your vehicle to the requirment. Isn't that a brilliant, original idea ?

IMHO
You never washed your 3 EXs ? Are you sure what color they are?
I tried taking my Ex off road, but I kept bottoming out the suspension. I have no problems taking it off the beaten path, but I would need to get new springs and tires first.
Having never off-roaded my ex, and not much off-road time anyway, I would be the best thing about the ex is that when you do get stuck, and stuck good; you have WAAAAAY more room to relax and stretch out in to wait for help then you would in a jeep, LC, or any other 4x4 out there. I mean, you could almost just live out of it wherever you are, who cares if your stuck there?
