i have a 93 ford f-250 naturally aspirited diesel. mechanic said the tranny comp is throwing a low pressure cod in gears 1 and 2. he said its internal problem but was still ok to drive. whats wierd is it only acts up when its really cold or when the truck gets wet. could that be something electrical????
What were the code numbers.........
Check the connector on the right side of the trans...........
Special note:
To remove the solenoid plug, remove the heat shield."Do not use pry bars or screw drivers in attempt to remove plug" without shield removed.
Remove solenoid body connector by pushing on the center tab and pulling the wire harness.
To replace push down on solenoid connector until audible click is heard, then replace heat shield.
Your looking for bent, corroded, wet or missing pins.........
i think it was code 49. he hooked pressure gauges to it and gears 1 and 2 are not getting good pressure. he told me it was internal problem. but if it was the pump or something it would do it all the time, but it only does it when it rains or i wash it or when its below freezeing.
Well this is what my book had to say about the code 49
"1-2 shift Error: Engine speed drop during the 1 to 2 shift does not fall within tolerance limits."
Doesn't tell you anything you didn't already know.
How do your cluster gauges work? On your year of truck the tachometer as well as speedometer need to read accurate and steady to prevent the computer from storing error codes and activating limp mode.
You didn't say how 3rd gear works. Is it completely normal? not even a hint of slipping or hard shifting?
actually third gear shifts hard to then fourth is fine and it shifts hard into overdrive. the ford mechanic says my cluster or speed sensor is bad. but another mechanic says my front pump is bad so i dont know where to start.
my problem was something i would never even have checked, the relay connector ,was bad not the relay
if your tack is working, and the trans is shifting , but not correctly . the other devices that make it shift are
1.fipl. fuel position lever on the ip
2. the speed sensor on the rear differencial
both are at auto zone, advance ,pep boys cheep$$
thats were i would start
check the fuse
i have replaced the throttle position sensor, i replaced the range sensor, the mechanic told me the speed sensor in rear differential is good, the only sensor i havnt replaced is the engine speed sensor, is that like two wires in the middle of a nut on the driver side by the oil fill spout?
