He laughed when he saw my truck coming and said there was no way that F150 could pull that big truck out, "especially because it only has a 6 cylinder, you need a V8" I made him eat his words!

I heard the 300 was too long for the engine compartment of the 97 and up F series, so they axed it. I mean these days they have half of the damn engine under the front windshield where the firewall used to be ! I feel sorry for the mechanics today who have to work on all these new cars where everything is practically inaccessible !
I have also been told that the Ford 300 was Fords lowest cost engine ever for warranty work.

I don't feel sorry for the A-holes. They charge you an arm, a leg, and your left nut.

bill LOL! ha and yea by buddies f150 (05-07 i think), the engine goes under the dam windshield! i mean common thats as bad as a van, but worse since it doesnt have the hatch to open up in the cab! its almost like they do that on purpose you know, so you CANT attempt to fix it yourself since you might not know how to get to stuff back there

How high did I have to rev it? I didn't even need to touch the skinny pedal to get it moving.

And yes, the glasspack has broken in nicely, and my truck sound's like a dump truck again. I noticed it in the cab before, but it was really cool when I let my buddy drive my truck today and it sounded like a freakin dump truck for real while driving off. It's awesome!!!

Darrell you know I'm speaking the truth! lol

Nick I believe Ford does the things they do so you have to take the trucks to the dealership.

Ian, are you happy now with the glasspack? Sounds like everything worked out for you. I'm glad you like it! I'd like to hear it.

I think the reason for the set back on the engine is due to the rake of the windscreen. Which is done for aerodynamics for fuel economy.

Just a thought

The 4.2L was a better choice for the market, too, at that time. The newer F-150's are heavier. I'd hate to have just 145 horse to move one around unloaded all the time.

What I would have liked to have seen was a revamped 300. More horse and torque in a smaller package.

yeah i pulled a little dodge neon my first time and man that thing pulled nice. my friends didnt think i could do it. then i pulled a friends honda crx and truck did great again. i go mudding at a place called the pipeline in north central Wisconsin which is like 50 miles from green bay. now when i got mudding with my truck my friend has a jacked up 87 gmc jimmy and if i knew someone who could pull it he would take it up their. and i told him i would do it but i dont have trailer brakes and i told him you don't need those. and my other friends don't think i can do it and i told them to see me try it when we go/ if we go. but yeah i like the 4.9l a lot. haven't gotten the good gas millage yet but hopefully after i take her out and refresh everything if everything is good it would get good millage.

does anyone else here have a like knocking/ ticking noise when they start their truck up and does it only do that when you give it gas as your letting the clutch out. someone told me that it was normal cause all of them do that.

yeah if they made a new straight 6 i would be their the first day to try it out and maybe buy it.
and those 3.0l are strong motors i hear. my friend has a Taurus and that thing is a beast i tell you. it has been through hell and back.

and yeah i hate going to get stuff done at a shop cause they charge so much. i will be going to school for automotive technician and that will be nice cause then i will know more when fixing my truck. i fix other peoples cars for them and hell it gives me the extra money for knowing how to do it.

WYG, my truck has been knocking for years. Just keep an ear on it.

Dude, people underestimate the dual cam 3.0L. That thing really is a beast. It feels like it has twice the horse it's rated for. That thing.. man. I just have nothing but good to say about it.

Where you planning to go for school? Only reason I ask is cause I currently go to Wyotech. Having done quite a bit of research, Wyotech is pretty much the best school to go to, unless you really want to work for an OEM, other than Ford. UTI deals almost strictly with OEMs like BMW, Mercedes and VW.

well the local tecnical college here in green bay wi is good. i went to an open house they had for the automotive program when i was in my senior year in high school which was 2 yrs ago. but it seemed pretty good. i was thinking bout uti but the techs at the school said kids actually joined their class from uti and said it was bettter than uti. i would rather stay in town here since i can save money by staying with parents. its just nice to know what you are doing when you go into the class.

Sounds like a way to go, while a technical college isn't quite as recognized, the recognition in this field doesn't seem to get you very far. And I can guarentee you wont pay anywhere near as much for a tech college as you will for UTI or Wyotech or (shudder) Linkoln Tech.
