i like the sound of some of them but yea none of them are haulers. if ford was bright in the engine area (other the the new ones that they have come out with), they would make a straight four, that was made off of the same line as the 300 straight six. i believe that was part of the factor of its dismissal. they had to have a separate die to make the 300, which led to spending more (necessary money)...babies, if only they didnt stop, what would have been done to it for the better?!

Bill: I am running a Powertrax No-slip in both of my F150s, it's a little quirky in cold weather until the rear end grease warms up... other than that I love it. I have a Detroit Locker in the rear of my 84 F250 and that thing rocks!
Me and my dad run that locker too. I love it. I think Powertrax makes a great product!

V6's are good for what they are made for. The 300 was made to work though. What did that guy say when you told him how big of a six it was?

yes these are amazing motors. people don't usually believe when I say one of our 300 powered trucks only has a 6 cylinder in it. I am surprised just that my dad's heavy 95 300 powered F150 super cab long box 4x4 with an M50D and 3.08 gears moves our nearly 3000 pound boat and a full super cab of 5 people as good as it does. I mean you feel it back there but it doesn't hardly slow 'er down at all. pretty amazing chit.

Yeah I am overall very happy with the performance of my Powertrax equipped trucks. Not sure if you knew this or not but they are manufactured by Richmond Gear, which is a well known and respected name. I have beat the crap out of the one in my 84 F150, had 33x12.50 Mud Kings on it with 4.10 gears. I've had to get through some pretty gnarly stuff to go pull people out, the Powertrax never let me down.
I am just not a big fan of V6s, you are right they are good in their own way... in a street driven commuter vehicle. I had a 95 GMC Jimmy with a 4.3 Vortec V6, it was a gutless nutless pig. It was nice on the highway empty, but put a load on it or take it in the woods... miserable. For an engine that supposedly made 195 hp and 260 tq... it sure didn't feel like it. My Mom recently bought an 07 Escape AWD with the 3.0 V6, it seems pretty peppy. To each their own I guess.
The guy really didn't have much to say, he did raise his eyebrows when I told him it was a 4.9 liter inline six. I think he was a little disappointed concidering his Tundra had a 4.7 liter V8. If we raced he would whip the chit out of me, I think if we hooked bumpers the story would different. I'm sure I would concidering I had almost 600 lbs in the bed for winter weight.

Lots of folks knock the old ford six. They call it a gutless pig, underpowered, slow. I will give them the slow part without a hitch.

The last factory I worked at they sat and knocked my old blue down till I pulled a trailer in one day.

I had a 72 LTD ford sitting on the trailer with the interior filled to the steering wheel with scrap iron. The bed had a 390, C6, a 9", and about 200 pounds of tools sitting in her. The damn truck pulled 13 MPG and the scrap weighed in at 3800 lbs.
A Complete FE and C6 weigh about 1200 lbs. I dont know about a 9" but they sure are heavy to lift by oneself.

I am guessing my GCVW was somthing like 11,000# that day.

Oh yeah, I got a 300.

Heck, I pull a trailer loaded with a car quite a bit with my 300 powered F150. Even with the 2.75 rear gears and 31-10.50 BFG AT on back, it handles the task pretty good. Also gets around 13mpg loaded, and well over 16 empty. Just don't get in a hurry. Mashing the pedal too far won't make it go much faster, but sure does speed up the fuel gauge's decent towards "E".............

The tall gears make snow a bit of a challenge. Takes 300-500LBS in the back to let the BFG's get a grip to untrack the front tires. Been threatening for years to swap in the 3.25 pumpkin, just haven't gotten around to it.

If I did know that, I forgot. I think my ring and pinion are Richmond too. Every once in a long while my rearend will make a noise that sounds like something broke; but this only happens if I'm going super slow and trying to turn really tight.

Dude, those 4.3 Chevy V6's are dogs stock. You can build them, tho. I've driven my neighbor's 2wd S-10 with the 4.3.. It runs okay. But I'm not impressed. And that's a 2wd S-10.

His Toyota might outpull you but he will get out of his truck with a respect for the Six Popper. Numbers are numbers man, you can't argue with that; but like I said, if you can keep the tires gripping, that small ''260" ft lbs makes a big difference when it's all below 2,000 rpm. His V8 makes more power though. It all depends on who starts to slip first.

Man don't get me started on that 3.0 V6. I love that thing! It's tiny, but runs GREAT. DOHC, 24 valves.. It only has 145 horse and tq, but it will keep up with any 300 in the speed depo, and then some. It sounds good revving up too. I'd love to have a single cab Ranger with the 3.0 for commuting.

And by the way, that is what I meant; V6's are excellent for commuting vehicles. They are small, compact, fuel effeicient, and nowadays make good power, depending.

We do have a V6 in the family now I'm not fond of. The V6 Magnum in the Dakota. 3.93 gears, 31'' tires, and that thing feels like a dog. Won't even bark a tire and it sucks down as much fuel as my 300 does. As long as that V6 stays realiable I won't give it too hard a time.

You are right numbers are numbers, but in a pull off the heavier truck usually wins... it's all about weight and traction. I am sure my 96 F150 RC LB was heavier concidering I had a topper on it with around 600 lbs in the back... 500 of that was behind the wheelwells. I am not sure about gearing but I definately had him beat with my tires and the fact that I have a locker in the rear. I highly doubt the automatic tranny in the yota had a first gear that would even begin to compare to the 5.72 first gear of my ZF, then imagine what would happen if I used low range! All that power doesn't do any good if you can't put it to the ground.

hehe I also just pulled my buddy's decrepid 6000# highboy down the street today as it's clutch went out and it wouldn't move. I used granny gear and I stayed under 1500 RPM the whole time pulling that heavy beast.

I wish you could see this one. She's as cute as can be. I don't know why she wears so much makeup, she sure don't need it.

That's awesome. Did you notice how much louder your truck got? I bet it sounded like a dump truck.

So how high did you have to rev the truck to get it moving?

no i think he might have a good chance in a tug o war. all of the 300's power is made just about instantly compared to the tundra, so while the trundra is "gettin" there, the 300 is already it the finish line
