89 fullsize bronco, the rear window is stuck down and the switch doesn't move it up or down, common issue...blah blah
What wires do i have to jump to bypass the switch and see if the motor is still good? maybe a diagram?
basicly i just want to see if the switch is bad before i go replacing a motor.
i'll also check resistance through the wiring to see if i have a bad wire. the owner said one day it worked, one day it didn't.
When pushing the dash button or turing the key in the tail gate can you hear the motor turning? If not, check for broken wires in the harness. Open the tail gate and look at the wires on the driver's side. Cut the wrap off at the bend to inspect. One or more wires may be broken where they bend when closing. If so, use butt connector. Rewrap with tape.
Not sure about turning the key. i'll let you know.
I know when i hit the switch it does nothing.
My dad said something about a safety switch? like the switch that doesnt let you put the window up or down when the gate is open. may have went bad and now its thinking the gate is open and switch wont work.
Safety switch is there. Try pushing forward on the tailgate driver's side while turning the key. both directions. I think CCW raises it. You can get replacement vinyl to go over the stops in the Help! section.
The motors themselves don't go bad as ofter as the three little "dowels" in the gearing but that would not be your problem if you do not hear the motor turning.

I went to the U-pull yard and found a mint condition tailgate with good tinted window for $100, on a 95 eddie bauer. Beautiful bronco but it was clunkered , very well kept.
The tailgate is so nice, i would of paid $300 for it. the window even works and i plugged right in !! and defrost works.
