I was just wondering what you guys thought about the 200 Maaco paint jobs. Are they any good? and would that include all the priming and body smoothing ( like fixing dings or small dents)?
thanks
brad
When I was a kid, I had Maaco shoot a Falcon that I had. They do not do any body work or smoothing - the price is just for shooting paint on the car, which they don't do a particularly good job of, by the way.
This is one of those things in life where you get what you pay for. If you are looking for a 50 foot job (it looks ok from 50 feet), then you will have to do all your own body work, take it to them primed and ready. Also, plan on having to have the truck painted again in the next year or two.
If, however, you want a decent paint job that you can take some pride in, find a local shop that you trust and are comfortable with, and pay them the money to do it right. You will be money ahead in the long run.
thanks for your response, on average how much would a paint shop charge to do a complete paint job on my truck minus the inside of the bed and back of the cab.
thanks again
brad
Ii depends on how much body work needs to be done, what kind of paint are you going to use, how many coats, clear coating?, etc. Too many variables to consider. You must take it to a body shop and work out all those variables with them. Then go to another and get a price on the same variables. After talkng with a few places, you will have a very good idea of what it will cost.
CACWBY here with my $.02 as well. A top quality professional paint job can set you back 3-5 grand easy, some materials cost 3-400. a gallon. So you def. have to figure out a budget and then either save up to it, do it yourself, or go cheap for now knowing it's a compromise. I bought my truck in 1989 and it had just came from the local Maaco shop (I know I learned my lesson-never buy a vehicle that some just had painted) and it took me a while to get overspray off places, but it looked pretty good for a couple years, but it start flaking really bad due to poor prep (no primer, very light or no scuff sanding. If you do this, def. do prep yourself, and see if you can get them to takethe bed off so back of cab get painted. Good Luck -
