You'll need a bell housing to match your engine family. It may be the same, but not a given.
You may also have to get or make a different driveshaft. What engine/tranny do you have now, and what engine is in the donor?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-17-03 AT 11:18 AM (EST)]i wouldnt be too worried about a speedo cable....its just an old truck. Im not sure what the tranny came out of. My truck right now has a 360 in it out of about a '75 f250. The engine originally had a 4speed on it but right now its got a 3 speed manual. the bell housing is the same. really what im wanting to know is if the back of the tranny has the yoke coming out of it to hook to a driveline, or is their some kind of splines to the transfer case. i can get the tranny for 25 dollars
The np435 in my 77, f250 , 4x4 has a 10 spline by 1 and 1\16 inch shaft. I would think that the 4 speed out of a 75 4x4 , f250 would probably BE the same dimensions. There is a possibility that the 4 speed in the 2x4 will have a DIFFERENT length of output shaft than the 4x4. Even if it is a 10 spline by 1 and 1\16 inch shaft it maybe a different length!!! If this is the case then the rear tranny mount quite possobility will NOT matchup. If you have access to BOTH trucks I would measure the Distance from the back of the tranny... back to the front of the rear Tranny mount and see if the distance is the Same. In any event that tranny, if in decent shape is worth 25 several times over , period. I would buy it and trade or resell for one that Will work. ...fd
