Ok, last night this thing was acting like it was running out of fuel ( cut off 4 times before making it home) total of about 4 miles. Replaced fuel filter, idle control valve about 6months ago. Checked the fuel pressure on gauge with switch on and there was nothing. This morning it would start up and run for about 3 seconds and die. cleaned the idle control valve put it back on and now i have nothing it want even start up. If anybody could help it would be wonderful. thanks in advance
It was sitting on a heel for about 6 hours and i did put 20.00 in it but the fuel pressure gauge has no reading i checked my gauge on my mustang and had about 25 pounds the excursion had 0. I do have 245000 on this v-10
Yes, checking pressure at rail. i have no pressure there everything else works, lights radio etc. motor turns over but it will not start. last night it acted like it was running out of fuel, this morning it would start and run for 3 or 4 seconds and die. now it will not even start. where is the fuse for the fuel pump and this other switch your talking about, i was going to test power to pump tomarrow it it's not snowing. thanks for your help.
Had a similar issue some months back. Theres a 30 amp fuse that handles the ignition etc. Wish I could remember the number ( & don't have my book or truck close) Pulled it out & sprayed contact cleaner in behind it. Let it set for a few hours & runs like new. Must have had some gunk back there. Let us know what you find.
The fuel pump fuse is #40 in the fuse panel under the steering wheel. The interrupt switch is in the passenger side foot well in the kick panel. Check your manual for a picture which may help you find it - once you do then just push the button down to ensure it's closed.
Sounds like a bad fuel pump to me. Check fuses first then for power at the pump. Listen for the pump when you first turn on the key. If it is the pump hope there isn't much fuel in there. Good luck, John
I agree with the fuel pump, or beyond that....its not the ignition as its turning over, its not the electrical as you have power to the lights radio and ignition.....what about plugged fuel filter? it is curious that gauge is showing no fuel though.....im not familiar with fuel delivery system, if the fuel tank fill sensor goes bad will it default the pump to off?
alright, checked the pump cut off switch, and the fuel pump fuse both were fine. put my key in and it started up and then died started it again and it ran for about 4min. This is driving me alittle crazy now. first i had no pressure on gauge and it wouldn't fire now it's starting again. making me think maybe filter i don't know.
changed fuel filter, started up fuel pressure at rail said 35 pounds. drove it about 2miles seemed fine except for when you give it gas and let off of it it drops down and just about cuts off and then it picks up and idles fine, if you have any input on this let me know, thanks in advance. (the fuel filter was pretty dirty it poured black grit out for a while.)
Fuel pump!! or a bad connection at the pump. Either way you have to drop the tank to get access. If I had the tank down, there is no way I would put it back up without installing a new pump assembly regardless of what you find. Go to to the Ford dealer to get on too. I wouldn't waste my time with aftermarket.
