1941 military?

I just picked up a 1941 ford truck that I am told is the Military version. Did such a thing exist and how do figure out if I have one. We have found what looks like OD colored paint. I have not found a single picture online of a military version. however the 1 ton express seems to match it perfectly. It does not have the headlights in fender they are mounted on top of the fender. I will try to get some photos up ASAP.

alright so if the vin number is on the driver side of the frame under the hood I think it is 6303I06Y however there seems to be no 06Y model!? there is an 09Y. I'm going nuts trying to figure this thing out.

Talking 1941 vin help

hi,
I have a 1940 one ton, the vin is probably just a number, about 6 million would be right, the y indicates the model range, also based on engine HP.

you need to check a few different pictures at vanpelt sites - also verify the engine vin/serial numbers, etc. , ther is a different web page to check that at vanpelt. the one ton models also have several stamps all over the cross members and mounting areas indicating 01Y, etc. the top of the trans if original, would also have the vin stamp on it.

lightly clean, sand or wire brish this area, sparay wd40 and lightly wipe off. then spray paint lightly and again gently wipe off. the wd40 prevents the paint fom sticking in the vin stamp grooves, it should pop out clearly.

the one tons had an 8 ft bed vs 6 ft, etc. there are many differences, extra leaves in the leaf springs, etc.

hope this helps, ask again if not clear, this is my site with pics:

350 Chev?

I have a 1941 11Y, or the remains of it, which was the 122" wheelbase, 4 speed, 17" wheels, lights on top of the fender etc, 1 Tonner

The 1 ton models all had 17" wheels, & the most obvious difference between 40 & 41 models was the wide trim down the front of the hood & grille on 41's.

1940 trucks also had 'V8' stamped into the side of the hood, but in 1941, 4 & 6cyl engines became options, so the 'V8' stamping was dropped (also from the hubcaps - 'Ford' instead stamped on the hubcaps, & a stainless 'Ford' badge screwed on both sides of the hood, same as the one on the dash).

I've seen a lot of military photos of these trucks, mainly 1.5 ton, but I don't know if there was any difference to civilian versions. I've only seen one military truck 'in the flesh' of this model, & apart from paint, it appeared the same as civilian trucks.
The 42-45 trucks that were produced specifically for the war had several military features - extra wheel lugs, bigger tanks, headlight guards, blackout lights, tow hooks, deleted stampings etc

ahhah! My wife interestingly enough was the one who discovered the one last patch of what looks like original paint. which is a greenish color. I don't know if I'd call it OD green though. the wheels are 16"

finally got the photos uploaded.

ford started making war specific trucks in february 1942. the amount of chrome on your truck suggests it was civilian. this doesn't mean it wasn't procurred for military use after the fact. truck has potential, but sure is a project.

Looks good to me! - Over here we have so much rain (50" - 55" per year) that even a reasonably rust free truck, that age, is almost impossible to find - most have melted into the ground

Yout truck is a "Standard" as opposed to the more attractive "Commercial" which looks like the 40 passenger car
