The kit looks like it is not a "vehicle specific" or custom fit for your truck. Most on this truck use Magnaflow. I have an Edelbrock SDS system on my '04 which was stainless pipes with a titanium ceramic coated muffler. I don't think the new kits have stainless pipes now. There are several kits that are easy bolt-ons. You get what you pay for on most. If you are from up north you may want to get a kit with 304 stainless material though but it cost more. The exhaust does not seem to improve fuel mileage.

crush bends and aluminized steel = lesser performance (not really noticeable though) and prone to rust.

Honestly, if you want to do it on the cheap,. just go to an exhaust shop, ask for stainless and use a Magnaflow muffler. Probably end up costing the same.

I lucked out and got the Roush Off Road used for like 200 bucks.

I have had a FlowMaster cat back "50" series on my 04 FX4 5.4 since new, and it sounds great and was easy to install. FlowMaster does not make junk...it is built with aluminized steel, and it is durable. Magnaflow is a great system, but stainless costs more than aluminized steel.

note...I just checked the Ebay offer. Don't do it. My system is mandrel bent...those tailpipes are crimped. Check Summit, Jegs or one of the forum sponsors for the good stuff. I paid about 180 bucks for the real deal from Summit.

I wouldn't rule out Banks cat-back sytems either. The quality and sound are there with Banks.

Sorry Oldtimer, aluminized steel on an exhaust = junk. Especially if it sees winters. Go stainless. I had Flowmasters on my old car, went through 4 mufflers. Winters ate them up. The factory stainless pipes never needed replacement.

Where did you get it for that price? Also which one did you go with, pro, xp, or installer series, dual or single?

I want exhaust for my truck, but I'm too cheap to spend the $$$

A lot of which material you get in an exhaust system depends on how the vehicle is used. If you do a lot of short hop driving of less than 20 miles at a time, you'll be replacing aluminized steel systems frequently. Under those conditions, I would use only stainless exhaust systems. If you driving over 20 miles at a time where the exhaust system has a chance to heat up at the mufflers, then aluminized systems can give several years of service regardless of climate. I have a Flowmaster system on my Mustang that is over 10 years old without a problem. But all of the driving has been over long distances of 20 miles or more, usually several hundred miles at a time. Bottom line, if the driving is a lot of stop and go short distance, it'll be cheaper in the long run to spend the extra $ for a stainless system from the beginning. I have seen stainless systems last over 8 years even under short distance driving.

I got the MBRP system from performance truck products. it is the single exit behind the tires, aluminized pipes.if you buy a mbrp system from them use coupon code ptpmbrp10, gets you 10% off and free shipping. its the first time using this company, so I dont know much about their customer service. the system is the same as my friends, and he has had no rust or corrosion issues. He's had it for 3 years in CT snow, salt, sand, bad weather and no rust. and he never washes that truck. so I went the cheap route on the system.

Yeah, my old '77 is on it's third system using aluminized steel.

I replaced stock system with a custom dual system in 1987, used lifetime warrantied mufflers. 6 years later, shop installed two new ones for free. Then when the pipes were 11 years old, the shop replaced pipes and mufflers, charging me only for the pipes.

That system put on in 1998 is still on it, mufflers and pipes, no leaks. Plenty of hangers, pipes are looking old now, but the truck's 33 years old!

Like the sound of these. But on all the videos on youtube there seems to be a lot of popping when you rev it up. Is this how they all are?
