There's a fast way to make your truck have zero resale value...
The 300 six is an excellent choice. I don't think you'd have any trouble finding someone to sell you a column shift setup if you'd want to go that way. The Hurst floor shifters work okay but they're not light years better than the column shifter.
If you decide to go the floor shift route, don't get the cheapie Hurst/Mr Gasket version. Get the Hurst Comp Plus 3 sp shifter. I've had both and the Comp Plus is very solid and much more enjoyable.
Have you looked at Lokar shifters. Pretty pricey, but they have the appearance of a stock floor shift.
I'm doing the Mr. Gasket, and I don't like it, but it was what I could afford at this moment.
My experience with the mister gasket set will make you hate driving your truck. They are very poor quality and bind a lot. Look to ebay for a complete used hurst indy shifter. They are usually about the same price as the mr. gasket but work sooooooo much smoother.
