Hey all, i'm new to this forum and this is my first post in any forum, thanks for you patience and help. I recently purchased a used 2001 250sd w/7.3 psd, auto tranny, 2wd, extended cab long bed. Odo shows 124k, carfax and title search showed no discrepancies. The truck looks good although steering wheel wear indicates more milage than that, but otherwise the truck looks like well cared for 124k mile truck. My developing problem is between 40 to 42 mph and 48mph I usually get a shimmy from the rear(so it feels). I would desribe it as feeling like a bent wheel, maybe ply separation on rear tire, or out of balance with bad shocks. Tires are new yesterday (problem started prior to new tires), wheels were checked for defects, I have not yet unbolted the rear shocks and tested, but the bunce test indicates the are at least fair. I also have a "driveline" clunk when i come to complete stop, and when i leave a stop. Checked drive shaft, joints, and carriers, they seem pretty well in check w/very minor play. Tranny mount looks good, motor mounts are unchecked at this time. Any ideas?? thanks!
I had the same problem on my 01 ext cab, long bed 2wd. I being a technician checked everything and it drove me crazy for about a year. At the end i found an old bulletin about driveshaft alignment., I custom made a spacer to go between the driveshaft carrier bearing and the body about an inch thickness and problem was solved. I hope this helps. ps I replaced shocks, wheels, tires, driveshaft, brakes, checked rear end for play and dont want others to go through same money pit.
