I was hoping to install a "Sure Drain" from Fram (I know, don't use the orange filters) in my V10. The problem is, when I looked at the application guide, the '98 (vans) - 2000 V10's all called for a M14x1.5 threaded plug and the '01 and '02 V10's had nothing listed. Did they change the drain plug in '01\'02? Or will my truck also use the M14x1.5 plug?
I installed the fram sure drain on my 02 v-10 and after 2 oil changes i removed it. for 2 reasons
1. it took an extra 20 min to change oil, the oil drains VERY slow threw the small hole in the plug (i mean SLOW)
2. Im not sure all the oil can be drained with the plug in. after all the oil was out i removed the sure drain and some more oil came out.
the drain plug on the v-10 is the same as the 4.6 and 5.4 i purchased mine at autozone.

Darn. Wish you had posted earlier... I had already purchased the Fram when I started this post, but then had second thoughts when Nomo said to look at the Fumoto valve. Then, it was time to change the oil and I wanted to see if the Fram was the right thread size... in case I wanted to find a Fumoto... and before I knew it, I had talked myself into leaving it in.
It was the same thread size as the '98-'00 plugs. I will give it a try and see how it works. If I do take it out later, I am only out $12.
Now BadFord has me worried! I put in the sure drain plug I got for Xmas last change. Not due for another change for a while so I guess I'll have to wait to see how slow it is. The one thing I thought was nifty was the tube thingy though. Since the plug spits the oil out sideways it is a pain to catch it when it is not on a hoist lift. I did keep the old plug just in case, glad I did!

I like to catch the oil in a large laundry detergent bottle. A funnel sits in the bottle and the oil drains right in. I was thinking that I could just stick the hose from the "sure drain" right into the bottle and eliminate the messy funnel. We'll see. Maybe it would drain faster if the engine were slightly warm...
I have a sure drain in my 4.0 ranger. I always warm it up so all the crap sorta "mixes" back into the oil .. also makes the oil drain fast. Took less than twice as long as with a regular plug.
