has anybody installed any type of hid's with digital ballast. i know it should be an easy install but i dont wana screw it up. the kit i got from the hid factory in houston and they wanted way to much to install. any info?
Hi, Ive heard that its not hard to install these, but Ive also heard that its a pain!
I will watch your post, because I to am wanting to install these.
most of the kits that i've seen on the market are fool proof. if you get a decent kit with a relay harness, all you do is hook up power and ground. and plug everything in. if you dont have a relay harness, the ballast plugs into the factory headlight socket, and the bulb plugs into the ballast.
Send it back, they are unsafe and illegal. They do not help you see better, but they blind oncoming traffic and glare right back at you in rain, fog, and snow.

hmmm, well i dont wana send them back. in texas they are not illegal and it doesnt snow were i live. it did rain and i never got any glare. yes they are bright but i asked some other people at a redlight and they didnt have any problems.
they were really easy to install. just had to take out my old bulbs and put the new ones in. install the ballast and plug everything up and thats it. took about 45 minutes.

+1 I wish they would stop selling these kits. The factory headlights are designed for a halogen bulb. The optics are incorrect for HID bulbs. Sometimes late at night someone with these lights is comming the other way on a 2 lane highway and it is really hard to see and then my eyes have to readjust again. They are illegal for a reason!!!!!!!!!!
Also, Having them is just one more reason you might get pulled over. I would rather limit my chances of that than increase them.

Sorry bubba but THEY ARE ILLEGAL IN TX AND ALL OVER THE USA. They are NOT DOT OR SAE approved. Maybe you just didnt notice the warning on the box... NOT LEGAL FOR ROAD USE, off road and exhibition use ONLY, or maybe it is you just dont give a rats behind to the safety of the others on the road. Maybe you will get lucky and not get hit head on by the car going the opposite direction when you blind them.
Another fine example of an I dont care about anyone else as long as I LOOK KOOL attitude.
They have these kits for motorcycles and I know that the one for my bike is too "hot" . In order for it to work correctly, the interior of the housing needs to be changed so that the light output is placed correctly. Otherwise it just blinds oncoming drivers.
I suggest letting someone else drive your truck and you meeting them after 10 miles of driving and see if you notice which vehicle blinded you.

well, your right. i dont give a rats about other people. when have they every given a rats a$$ about my safety. i will buy what i want when i want for my truck because its my money. if you dont like it, i dont care. it never said anything about being offroad only or show use only, on the box or in the instructions or the website i got them from.

I'd love to see you display that attitude to an LEO when he stops you for illegal equipment.
My guess is you won't. If you do, please ask the officer to record the conversation. I'd love to see it on Youtube.
Ignorance and stupidity are not valid excuses for violating the law (or endangering the lives of other motorists on public highways). However, based on your post it may be an extenuating factor.
hey, ive been pulled over for stupider reasons. just because there is a cop at my window, doesnt mean i have to surrender all my rights. my sister is a cop, just an FYI. she loves my lights. in a small backwoods town were i live i want all the help i can get when it comes to backroads at night.
Just to clarify, vehicles from the factory with HID lights, are those a different kind? I don't think they would come from the factory with illegal equipment.

HIB bulbs that are between 4300k and 6000k will be much brighter than 10k. The lower the number the whiter and brighter the light. The higher the number the less light you actually get. All that purple/bue light you think you see is not really helping you in the backroads at night.
4300K HID Bulb have an output of approximately 3400 lumens
10000K HID Bulb have an approximate output of 2200 lumens
